quick hits and take from practice tonight

Two things. Just clarify, Cornelius was not in a one in one matchup, it was a "windows" zone. He was covering - to him - te right hash and sideline, coley was lined up to the left. He took off in the snap and did and out. Since it was Cornelius' zone, he had to "cover" or check to that WR that happen to be coley in that play. Got there way late. Just wanted to clarify.

Also, forgot to mention and it has been written in this thread, sandland is catching everything and yes seems to catch Williams real well. Def gonna go - as stated - from "ghost" to a ton of catches. Haven't seen anyone stay with him yet - even at some practices this past season.

I assumed that's what your were referring. Heaven forbid our defense call for our LB's to cover pass catchers in zone coverage. (not a slam on you, just some of the people responding).

Look the defense has plenty of problems and there are valid criticisms all around (scheme, coaching) but some of these arguments are ******* ridiculous.

Thanks for the recap.

Agreed and I realize my post came off pretty *****y. Theres a middle ground in there and I recognize that, just the same issues plague us at will and it's tough to deny that.

They've plagued us for three years. I don't understand why some people think they're going to be fixed. Al and D'Onofrio have been here for 36 games and in only one of them, Florida, did the defense resemble a Miami defense.

That is unacceptable.

To me, they are running that BS upfront cause they are trying to hide a weakness (or weaknesses) in the back seven. Other things that I notice that we do is play an extraordinary amount of 2 high safety. This defense would make more sense if we were keeping at least one of our safeties down in the box to help stop the run. I fear our safeties lack range which could be why they are sitting so high. Even being positioned the way they are, I notice Bush and Jenkins can be slow to react sometimes in both run and pass support.

I refuse to believe they are complete idiots. Stubborn yes, idiots no. I would really like to hear what they are over compensating for.

-Morris is very rusty. Very inconsistent tonight.

LOL That's not inconsistent. That's just who he is.

I am going to laugh when we can run a ball control offense next year because Morris is gone.

youre outta youre ******* mind if you think were gonna run a ball control offense

I dunno. We ran it pretty consistently when Duke was healthy. We still have a ton of big play ability obviously so our TOP will get skewed from time to time, but I thought we at least tried to control the clock.

Me too. But, we're never going to be privy to those conversations.

But back to the OP, I'm confident in Williams to run the offense next year and if Olsen beats him out then I'd be confident with that choice too. Williams seems to have a nice control of the offense from what I've seen this season.

Defense...Teddy B is gonna get all up in our *** if we stay in base D on 1st and 2nd down.

Williams will have a real nice season next year. Sandland is gonna breakout.

Clive finally has a QB to use him

I think the offense next year has the potential to be Top 10 in the country. Williams is very capable and won't make as many mistakes as Morris. He'll be throwing to Coley, Scott, Waters and Sandland. Possibly to Walford and Dorsett. Add that to Duke and Yearby in the backfield. Plus a solid OL. And if we get Cook....oh my.

we won't see balls flying 40 or 50+ yards no more.

but that's okay, because our YAC will go up as well as the completion percentage.

Ball goes about 52 yards in the air.

Guys forget that kids can get it 50 in the air BY high school. Its the 65 yarders and Better that are elite.

It sickens me to see guys like Gilbert being wasted due to this abhorrent defensive scheme.

Like Gilbert said he doesn't know why he even came here. It's Shay Green's team.

Funny enough his Wisconsin team beat us in the same Stadium that we'll be playing in again.

was at the practice too and i agree with a your eval

wanna add that hurns had a heck of a day, he was making plays and getting open, williams missed him on a couple of deep routes which is my only concern with him

stacy is still a beast and was making a lot of circus catches

the only thing i disagree is the olsen stuff, to me he looked really good threading the needle on some passes, i like his field vision he checked down when he needed

morris played like crap, he kept over and under throwing people all night

Howard used to say about Bernie. He gets the ball to the right guy 80% of the time. The need for arm strength is exaggerated at the college level. Being able to understand your pre-snap reads and being able to go through your progressions correctly matters more. Williams looks accurate enough at this level.

I perceive it the exact opposite. We play "don't get beat deep", due to our lack of pass rush.

Our guys would look better rushing te passer in a different system. Watch tape of what out DL is asked to do on non pass rushing situations, when teams do throw.

Got a good feeling about Sandland and Kamalu next year. Sometimes JUCOs just take some adjustment but both flashed a little bit and both have some weapons. I like their futures here.

Williams seems to look for Sandland every time he was in the game so he make a big jum next year.
