QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

You want to follow up the top passing offense in the league with a dude who cant pass and turns the ball over or...? If it's him or emory fine but if this is the guy prepare thy agnus in '25
Did you watch him or watch his box score?

I can’t tell if this sarcasm or serious lol
im not saying I want Beck or not, but he does make sense when you consider the entire situation.

1. I think most of our mindset with who replaces Ward is affected by actually having Cam Ward as our QB. We just had one of the best college QBs in the last decade (Mahomes, Burrow, Watson, and Lawrence) play for us; anyone replacing him is a step backwards. Therefore, we shouldn't compare 2025 QB to 2024. Zero comparison.

2. Beck is injured. Although Purdy had similar injury and surgery, I don't see an NFL team taking a QB in rounds 2-4 coming off of elbow reconstruction. Therefore, I see Beck returning to college.

3. Obviously Miami is waiting for a particular QB. I don't think they are waiting until Spring portal window opens either. They went after Mateer (we think), but other than him, we haven't been linked to anyone else. So, whoever Miami is waiting on (the staff obviously knows they need a QB) is either still playing (Ewers, Manning, Allar, Brown) or not playing and considering the draft (Beck) or a grad transfer (Dart).

4. Either Miami completely crapped the bed with the portal QB situation or it's option 3 above. I'm trying my hardest to not believe Mario completely crapped the bed with this situation but I also understand that we have a head coach that refused to go into victory formation. So, yeah.

He’s got some skill. If we go run centric/defense he can get us 10 wins as a manager.
a qb with a 56% completion percentage in the MAC can get us to 10 win when we have ND, UF, Louisville, SMU, Syracuse, etc. on the schedule?

Of the Top 60 Portal QBs from 2024 (winter and spring), only 3 entered in the spring. The best of those three was Jaden Rashada.
yep 🎯, no other way to slice it, if someone's entering in the spring it's because they got beat out or a complete one-off program dispute

anyone we get in spring will be the 2nd best QB at their school

luckily for us, most teams backups are better than what we have currently

Did we even try to get mendoza, moss, saltter, mensah to visit?

Serious question..Or were we just focused on mateer only even tho it felt like a dream with his oc going to ou

Mensah went into the portal, visited Duke the next day, and committed the next day. His agent (who is getting obliterated for fighting with fans on twitter) had been in touch with Duke since October.

We’ve won 10 games twice in two decades and people think every QB in the portal could game manage us to double digit wins. It’s incredible.
this is probably a take people wont like, but cam got us to 11 - Mario and staff (or cam, idk) made a decision to lose the Iowa state game

a game manager qb would not have gotten us to even 9 wins this year due to the defense

a game manager qb Won't get us to 10 next year due to the schedule

after that going forward assuming we remain excellent a talent acquisition and our defense remains good, we may be able to get by but definitely need more than a game manager in '25, we're going to need someone that can win us games not someone that doesn't lose them

I’m coming around to your thought process.

If we look at last year, when Miami thought Cam was off to the NFL draft, he made a panic offer to Reece. You can’t convince me that Reece would have been offered if Cam committed early on.

Mario has had two opportunties to make a panic offer to Mendoza/someone - right after Mateer declined to visit and right after the bowl game. Neither has happened - I think the backchannels have been used and they have kept a tight lid on this. So much so that usual insiders don’t know anything (D$, TOC, etc). Normally they would wink and say trust the process - both were big Mendoza offer fans. Don’t think they would be saying that if they were aware of the actual plan.

Now theres a chance that the staff is sold on Emory and didn’t have a backup plan for the disaster that was the 2nd half of the bowl game. But I think we would have heard that Mario panic offered someone by now.

But its eerily quiet on the QB front.

2026 has always been the target
we have what 10 seniors next year

I dont see the 25 schedule that hard next year
It's ND and UF in pre season

Same old ACC teams in regular season
No clemson on schedule
Smu Louisville and Syracuse

SMU made the playoffs, Syracuse beat us and won 10 games, and Louisville remains one of the best teams in the conference despite their record (they got miller moss so they'll be fine)

not sure what point you're trying to make

I'm not saying it's like florida's schedule last year, but saying it's not objectively "hard" is just dumb
