QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

My mom would make a better qb than Emory. I would have taken anyone for at least competition this spring.

I would have taken in no order
Mendoza
Drones
The kid from Tulane
The one from SD St
Anyone from Ohio St

Actually you just make a list and I’ll say yes. There’s too many to name.

Being in the position where it’s either Beck Or Ewers or Emory is unacceptable.
Compared to Emory I agree but you have no idea how strong they may/may not feel about a grad transfer or Beck/Ewers.

We are talking about the Mendoza that couldn't beat FSU?

The same Mendoza that accumilated a majority of his stats against the bottom 3 teams in the ACC who had a combined record of 9-27 and a 5-7 Oregon State team?

I feel like the Mendoza love from the fan base comes from a place of desperation we have given the state of the QB availability in the portal.

At the end of the day, yes he is better than Emory, but he comes with glaring limitations in his mechanics and ability.

Emory wins us 4-6 games under center. Mendoza finds a way to win a couple of the bigger games but would still only be 6-8 wins. In my opinion of course.

Not sure if the staff was/would be willing to commit to that type of ceiling with how much time was left for QBs to enter the portal. Basically putting a cap on next years potential by doing so.

If Cal had a decent kicker, they beat F$U, Pitt, and NC State last year, and possibly even Miami.

The fact remains, Mendoza went 6-6 with Cal this year, playing the SAME EXACT TEAMS that Miami has to face in-conference. You know, the ACC. Cal should have gone 9-3 or 10-2 this year, and only ONE loss was by more than one score (the loss to SMU). Plus, Mendoza started for most of the year in 2023 when Cal was in the Pac 12.

And he has no "glaring limitations" in his mechanics and ability.

And you know what "puts a cap on next year's potential" more than anything? NOT TAKING A SINGLE PORTAL QB when you just lost one to graduation and one to the Portal, and your top returning guy is Emory Williams. THAT is a "cap on next year's potential".

But we should just keep waiting around for the perfect guy. But there ARE NO Cam Wards this year. Certainly, none left.

What other grad transfer options are there outside of Daniels and Drones?

I have an idea of who’s going to win when it comes to us vs Oregon vs Georgia to pay a qb. But that’s just me, I guess.
We will have $2-5M for a QB so I'm not worried about either of those on top of the fact that Oregon has Dante Moore and Georgia has Gunnar Stockton which would then open up as options for us.

I would definitely take Daniel’s but he already locked in his NIL with Kansas for the 2025 season

How do you know we have that much for a QB?

Luke Altmyer (ew)
McCord if he gets waiver granted (lean yes right now)

Probably many more but can’t remember. Chandler Morris is entering his 6th year so maybe him, but he’s already at UVA.

How do you think Duke had money for Mensah?

The House settlement is expected to kick in July 1st and then all P4 teams that choose to can pay $20.5M a year to athletes and $15M of that is expected to go towards football.
