QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

This post, times a trillion.

I was very suspect on how much burn Poff got in the early part of 2024, but I assumed it was an abundance of caution on the injury.

Now, I'm more concerned that it was wishful thinking...that one day our little flower would bloom...and the day never came...

The messaging we all got was it was because they wanted to preserve Emory's red shirt.

I had written off Emory having a future as our starting QB after what he showed last year, so I won't claim this is anything but hindsight. However, if all the optimism based on his practice performance had even a smidgen of basis to it, it makes no sense not to have played him and run the offense for a couple of series in 3 of those games.

I find the optimism regarding his potential as a starting QB really hard to understand and believe, but there appears to have been genuine shock by folks who saw him at practice after his performance in the bowl game.

Why did we wait until most of the QBs in the portal had already decided to give him meaningful action when we obviously could have done so months ago? Makes no sense if there was any consideration from Mario/Dawson that he could potentially be our starting QB next year.

Oh well.

Yeah, but for what.

If the "we're gonna ride with Emory" **** was real, they wouldn't need to do it (redshirt him), since he's gonna be in the NFL soon. Besides, they could have played him more than in just ONE game against Balls State if they actually think they are going to use him in 2025. AND STILL preserve the redshirt.

**** the messaging.

Nickel is gonna be good. But what are the records of teams that have started a true freshman in the P4 or P5 in the past?

Have any won 10+ games excluding the generational talents like Trevor Lawrence?

Gonna be like the gaytors last year but worse as Nickel takes his lumps.

Yup the redshirt stuff made no sense either. In what world was Emory ever going to be a 3 year starter here?

On its face, I do not disagree.

But that MASSIVE Duke offer right out of the box was unexpected too.

If we were really intent on making our pitch to Mateer, then Mensah was never happening. Because he signed that deal with Duke WITH THE QUICKNESS.

Manny played that one like a maestro. He aimed a bit lower and then pulled a last minute massive-offer eBay maneuver. Manny won that auction. Not sure if he's won anything since, but he **** sure sniped Mensah.
starting bid was set at 99 cents, no offers, Manny throws out a $100

I mean surely Emory wanted the Redshirt. Its not like he was starting. You think he wants to burn a redshirt because he played in some blowouts to hand the ball off and then the cupcake game? I didn't mind the decision to go with Poff one cupcake game and Emory another. It would have been good to get them more burn but we were in a lot of close games down to the wire, so not like we had all that much opportunity to be putting the backups in often. Plus by the end of the season I'm sure we were trying to pad Cams stats to get him Heisman....

Emory could have played a series or two at the end of the UF/USF/FSU/WF games. I don't get it.
yet another thing the cis brigade *****ed at me for mentioning during the season. It’s b2b years of complete and total incompetence as it pertains to getting snaps to your backups when you have the chance. Brown last year emory this year. It’s a trend at this point which is beyond dumb when you’re guaranteed 4 games to maintain Redshirt.

It’s time to wake up and smell the roses: Total incompetence down in coral gables

well "good" is a relative term with what's been available

it's not anywhere near last year's class - even believe mateer is relatively overrated playing a g5 schedule (cam played in true pac 12) and he was by far the best option this year

according to 247 rankings of QBs (take that with a grain of salt), here are the QBs still available

Matt Sluka (#16 qb)
Mark Gronowski (#27)
Devin Brown (#31)
Israel Carter #42
Aidan Glober #43
Tyler van dyke #45 -definitely SMU it seems
kai horton #54
Alex orji #55 -- I mean after him, what's the point of even going down the list

for reference

mendoza is #3
air noland #11
Thomas castellanos #20

so yeah, all the relatively "good" ones are gone and we're cooked unless someone enters soon or in the spring
Air Noland who has yet to throw a pass is 11? Hahahahahaah Who makes these rankings up?
