QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

I don’t think anyone is celebrating the idea of Milroe like he’s some great get. But he definitely gives us a better chance in games when compared to the guys we currently have in the QB room.
I think you're wrong about this, I think there are several uninformed people on this board who think Milroe is a good QB and would do well here. I prefer my QBs have the ability to complete a forward pass on a regular basis, but that's just me.

Milroe has a 64% completion rate over the past 2 years, with an average of over 9 yards per attempt. Cam had a 9.5 ypa. His TD to INT ratio was pretty bad and he can't seem to complete a pass between the seams, but would be better than what we have.

I think he can do well here too, but that doesn’t me the idea of this thrills me.

Miami has a much better OL than Alabama and the ACC is significantly weaker than the SEC. He could come here and bomb, but I don’t think he would. It’s not unprecedented for a guy to be pedestrian at one school, only to transfer and look much better.

Our current projected QB1 for next season has more targets to linemen than he does receivers.

...so TVD with legs.

Better than Emory, sure, but we should be shooting for better thru the air when we're looking at a QB. As I said in another thread...Milroe in this offense would be a tough fit. Dawson would have to run it like the Wing T out of the shotgun because Milroe doesn't make the vital window/short-mid throws that this offense requires on a consistent enough basis. In that facet - he is what he is and isn't gonna get magically better in a Miami uniform than he was/is in a Bama uniform.

Milroe finished 6th in the Heisman last year. The idea that he’s a bad college football player is strange to me.

He would need to be used correctly, but he can be a force in the right offense.
No denying any of that.

But in terms of Milroe as a passer, we can/should do better than that when looking for a QB in our system. That's really my hard line with him. If he enters the portal and we land him...I'll reserve full judgement and hope he plays well for us...but this is a lipstick on a pig scenario w/Milroe as a passer. Love what he brings as a runner, no doubt...but you cannot afford to be one dimensional and tipping plays like he does at this level of football.

I didn’t think Bo Nix would be anything but a turnover machine at Oregon but he ‘magically’ learned how to play QB there.

Couldn't agree more, I just have this gut feeling he's the guy they are going to target

I think he would do well here cause I've seen Dawson have back to back 31ppg seasons, and one of them was with a QB who is now trying to find his third school to play ball at.

Is Milroe a great passer? No. He needs work.

Is he a game changer as a runner? I believe so. And I've seen it.

Dawson has worked with every QB that has started (TVD, Emory, Cam), and implemented things that they are good at into the offense. He listens to his QBs and doesn't try to fit a square peg in a round hole. So if Milroe came here, I can see Dawson working on building the offense to his strengths and not try to be like "well here we only do this."

Guys can improve. And system fits matter. Sometimes guys are asked to do things out of the comfort zone. The idea that a guy can’t get better by changing uniforms (teams) is unequivocally wrong.

Look at Bo Nix, Rourke, Penix, McCord, etc.

2023 -> 2024 completely new offense staff. Something worked in 2023 clearly.
