It's a no brainer aside from Mateer being a die hard Sooner fan. Which even then, portal kids tend to make more business decisions as opposed to emotional decisions.

Any hesitation on Mateer at all? He’s a 1 year starter and played some meh competition also. No where near the same passer as Ward but really dynamic as a runner.

I think we don't need to see a top 30ish defense in year 1. I think most of us want to see more discipline, better technique, and better adjustments throughout the course of a game.

Yes. A reasonably effective defense. One that can at least get a handful of 3 and outs and force FGs. A pass rush would be exciting as well
