Frank Gore is 3rd all time in rushing? How does this apply?
He played 16 seasons... but was he ever really dominant?? Believe me I'm not knocking Gore at all for what he accomplished but he was never the "Best running back of his time".... He was amazingly consistent ...
As I said in another post he should absolutely get in , I just wanted to hear what you thought based on the phrasing of your statement.... There's been plenty of players who got in due to longevity and the stats gained in doing so....

Extremely weak class. Gates is the only one deserving of the nomination. Eric Allen and Jared Allen were very good and put up some numbers, but not quite HOF in my opinion. With Sterling Sharpe getting in, Sean Taylor should be a lock based on their criteria.
It’s criminal that in this weak year that Willie Anderson is still left out. One of the three best right tackles in history who unfortunately spent his career playing for some truly awful cincy teams

If he was 13th all time in rushing he would have a hard case. I should have specified longevity alone. Jason Witten played 17 seasons he isn't a hall of famer.

Surprised Jarred and Eric got in over Eli.... I mean 2 Superbowl MVP's along with the longevity gotta stand for something doesn't it? By no means am I saying he's "The greatest QB ever" but he's done plenty to get in over the two ....
Eli is a lifetime .500 qb. 81 and 81 or something like that

He was 117-117.. correct on .500 QB.. but... 57000 yards, 366 tds 4 pro bowls... And 2 Superbowl MVP's.... Alot of players would love that kind of resume... He should get in at some point...

The hall of fame should be only those who dominated the sport. Longevity is not an accolade.
Disagree. It's a combination of both for the bottom half. Legit 1st balloters (Payton, Brown, Sanders, Smith, LT etc) and then the rest. For every Terrell Davis there's a Franco Harris/Marcus Allen/Frank Gore.

Playoffs/Championships factor in as well. Derek Jeter is only beloved bc of being clutch and winning titles. (sub-par defender and above average hitter)

Don't get me wrong, you can't be average. But if you're pro-bowl caliber or close for a career spanning longer than the family pet, yeah, it should count.

Being clutch and winning titles is kinda a big thing... Lol..... I'm biased... Lifelong Yankee fan... Jeter was awesome... 🤣🤣

You shouldn't have to be the best of all time, nor the best of your era to get into the hall of fame. He played on trash teams. He averaged 4.28. Walter Payton averaged 4.35. They both had 16000 yards. It really shouldn't be so hard to diagnose.

I’m fine with these type of selections. Stats don’t get him in but you can read between the lines & figure they would’ve been there. Ok, Huge assumption but cool.

Why discredit a Reggie Wayne though? He actually put in the work, built the stats, stood near the top for twice the time.. I think the Hall should be filled with those who shined brightest & fizzled early AND those who stayed near the top for longer than our pets remained alive.

No one is discrediting Wayne; he’s going to get in. He has the #’s, but Sterling not being in has been a travesty for some time, & it was all due to politics. Just like Big Papi & Mike Piazza getting in over Bonds, when Papi actually tested positive for PEDs, & Piazza was linked. Both were well liked by the media, while guys like Bonds & Clemons were absolutely ******** to them, so they’re using the whole PED/integrity of the game angle.

Both the NFL & MLB HOF have butt hurt voters that chooses personal vendettas over actual impact. Borderline players r often left hanging for decades if they don’t care for u, but if u’re a media darling, u’ll get in by 3rd-5th ballot. I think Wayne when compared to his contemporaries wasn’t elite, but very good.

But let’s go back to Wayne:

7 yrs he had over a 1,000 yrds receiving which is impressive, but while Sharpe was battling Rice for top WR in the league, Wayne was battling Donald Driver, Terry Glenn, Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin to be Top 10. Only 3 of Wayne’s 13 yrs was he battling to be top 5 (2006, 2007, 2010). So it didn’t/doesn’t surprise me that Reggie didn’t get in, & was going to take a several ballots to get in b/c he didn’t dominate compared to his contemporaries, but he will get in. He has the longevity stats, the accolades, & a ring.

My favorite thing. Just saying each case has a sliding scale with lots of different factors weighing in.

Sidenote: Cam Newton just said this week he'd rather have his MVP than a Super Bowl trophy. What a loser.

Derek Jeter:
-5x Champion
-14x All Star
-.310 career batting avg.
-3000+ career hits
-1300+ RBIs
-5x Gold Glove
-5x Silver Slugger
-MVP
-ROY
-WS MVP
-2x Hank Aaron Award Winner

What r u talking about? This is about as close to a 100% sure 1st ballot resume in MLB history. Lol.

I'm with you on Witten...but you know he is getting in for that reason.

He played in a much more pass happy league. Played forever. Had about a 5-6 year run where he was really really good. But every other year he was just solid.

And again its not taking away from anyones career. I just think the HOF should be different.
