Higher ed is struggling in general. There needs to be a disruptor or someone who thinks differently to get through these changes
1. I apologize for my statement, which IMO is a statement of fact, not a political statement.
2. IMO my comment is germane to the process of hiring Echevarria because IMO the individuals that I characterized were not likely supportive of hiring a businessMAN as president. they would have preferred an academic hung up on ___________________, as evidenced by the hiring of Frenk over Admiral Stravidis.
3. to respectfully correct since you could never know my motive, i did not make the statement to create a reaction among others. how presumptuous. I accept your apology in advance.
in conclusion, because you deem it a political statement and it is not allowed here (i dont really follow what is allowed where), i will edit my comment.
PD i suppose i will be banned for my words/behavior, ita sit.
Also, it’s a lot easier to get into Ole Miss, Georgia, and other SEC schools compared to schools in states with higher end University systems. Cali kids go everywhere, because it’s borderline impossible to get into UCLA and Cal. Schools like Alabama are also aggressively recruiting OOS kids because they don’t have nearly as many high end kids in state thanks to the state being an educational cesspool. It is also a business decision. They pay higher tuition.
Less kids going to college and the concept of the four year degree is definitely going to take a hit more and more because of the pressure to earn money. I still expect the vocational route to continue to pick up steam given the cost of program and the immediate ability to earn.Higher ed is struggling in general. I have to dig into it but I remember reading a research paper a few years back about the correlation of being a successful D1 football program and higher number of applicants to your school. They studied Alabama, LSU, OSU, UGA, Texas, and Oregon from what I remember. There were a few others to that I can't remember but basically they showed that the better the football team got, the more applications the school got which allowed them to be pickier with who to accept and in turn turned the cumulative GPAs and grad rates and other academic achievements WAY up. Was a pretty cool read and makes a lot of sense.Win football games, applications go up. Apps go up you become more selective in who is accepted. Then rankings which are completely ridiculous bump you up. Now even better professors want to work at your university as well.
More money coming in means everyone on campus wins too. New buildings, better salaries, etc.
Is it that simple…no but it will def get the ball rolling.
If he is pro athletics I’m all for it
I saw one with Alabama (and my numbers may be off a touch) but from 1970-2007 the university grew by about 12000 students. From 2007-2023 the university grew by 13,000. They didn’t even get into the building, how it funded all the non revenue sports and still turned a massive profit.I have to dig into it but I remember reading a research paper a few years back about the correlation of being a successful D1 football program and higher number of applicants to your school. There is no other choice besides the Secada. UM should tell him "All I really Want is You"
Tad Foote and Donna Shalala, to date, are likely the two most consequential UM Presidents in school history. When you think about it, the fact that we've only had 6 presidents in 99 years is pretty amazing.
To be sure the others had their challenges, particularly getting from a cardboard college to a functional campus, but I'd have to say that I agree with you.Tad Foote and Donna Shalala, to date, are likely the two most consequential UM Presidents in school history.
Very loaded statement for sure, but gato daddy stands on bidness.
I'll see myself out.

if "restraint" of the poster is the expectation the board would be empty...1. I apologize for my statement, which IMO is a statement of fact, not a political statement.

This was proven during the basketball program success. Applications shot upI have to dig into it but I remember reading a research paper a few years back about the correlation of being a successful D1 football program and higher number of applicants to your school.
