Prediction on Gus Edwards

I think he redshirts if Clements comes back strong. Goldens has a hard-on for Clements.

I think this and Dillard. Can Dillard be the big back? Can he contribute? If he can give us solid burn (along with EC) then I think Gus redshirts.

He will be a rb this year and will contribute. Gus will shock some folks.

No need to jump all over the OP for being enthusiastic.

For me though, I would be happy if Gus does well enough in camp to demand playing time. Maybe play a Najeh Davenport type role for us. Or even just be the goal line touchdown vulture when we get inside the 5 yd line. Like Mike Alstott to Duke's Warrick Dunn. That would be perfect for a true freshman.

I see Dallas Crawford and OT getting more reps to spell Duke though. Unless of course, Gus comes in and demands it with his practice play.

He'll probably have 250 carries for 1,800 yards with 16 TDs while catching 57 passes for 685 yards and 9 TDs. He'll win the Heisman, we'll go 14-0, the NFL will change it's draft rules so he can go pro, ESPN will make a 30 for 30 about him called "Riding the Gus," Golden will be coaching the Dolphins next year, and Shapiro will be pardoned, but exiled to North Korea to be Kim Jung Un's play toy.

Not saying you're wrong but just so I understand this, Dillard is still "adjusting" and Johnson has a lot to prove. Neither of these conditions apply to Edwards though who was playing high school football in New York 6 months ago?

^^^This

I hope Gus proves majority of us wrong but I just don't see it happening

not so fast my friend most SEC backs are from SEC country this kid is straight out of the Northeast. He could easily get redshirted this season with Duke, Hagens, OT, and Crawford seeing the majority of the touches Don't forget Danny Dillard who got stronger and the transfer from Iowa DeAndre Johnson the kid from Pace. I think he has potential but there is no way in **** he rushes for 800-900 yards with Duke on this team.

Well Gurley is from North Carolina which is not necessarily SEC country. But the fact remains, if you look at what Gurley did in the SEC last season as a FRESHMAN, you don't think Gus, with the same measurements and attributes can't have that same production in the ACC? Don't believe me just watch.

To me it has nothing to do with SEC, but you dont base players off measurements. Thats like saying every rb that is 5'9 190 will be like Duke. Gurley was/is a freak athlete, at 6'1 230 he was an accomplished hurdler, even ran for team USA some. He has returned kickoffs back, he had something obscene like 2,600 yrds his senior year and 35+ TDs. I just hope the guy we recruited is able to shore up the depth chart and give Duke a breather. He will get his first shot at RB because like DT, we have bodies but besides Duke we have no difference makers.

What I'm saying is. Trust me when I tell you, Gus is already our best option as a #2 RB because Crawford is not a true RB nor is he a big back. Dillard is still adjusting and DeAndre Johnson is a journeyman with a lot to prove. Also, look at last season. Duke Johnson had 139 carries and Mike James had 147. Expect the same type of workload between the both of them. He will get at least 800 yards this season.

And so was Duke playing HS the year before Gus. The RBs we have are all KNOWN quantity; if one of them really had it, he would have played more than Mike James or close to as much as Mike James. Yeah, yeah, we have a back who's 240 lbs, but we also HAD that back and exactly how much burn did that back give us? The RB corps, except for Duke, are all suspects and projects. If Gus tears it up between the tackles, then you can't keep him off the field, particularly considering Gus shows ample speed, a la Mike James, for long runs and even to the house.

I appreciate OP's enthusiasm. Go get 'em, AyeGus! I don't see the Gus Bus redshirting this year unless Clements comes back full strength. Gus is better than Dillard, and he brings a thump that Crawford doesn't. He reminds me a little bit of another tough RB out of NYC--Stephen McGuire.

It would be great to have a Steven McGuire type runner to pair with Duke the next two years...

MMaurice Hagens will be our 2nd leading rusher

1300 yards rushing as a senior in high school
6 yards per carry

I can see it playing out that way. I think the staff would like Dillard to step up and allow Gus to shirt but at the same time they were out there recruiting a grown *** man at RB because they knew they might need one.

to OP

Lol I like the enthusiasm but sadly Gus didn't even post 900 yards his senior season of HIGH SCHOOL, so I reaaallyy doubt he's gunna put MORE than that up as a True Frosh idc SEC or not :/

granted he did rush for 8 ypc so I'm not sure why exactly they didn't give him the rock more.

I'm hoping he contributes though. Maybe 400-500 yards and a handful of TD's. Also his contribution in pass blocking shouldn't be overlooked

maybe a little high estimate on production but it could happen. and definetly underestimating his talent. I think he is a true rb not a hybrid fb type, i think he is faster than mike james. definetly can do some pounding for us along with hagens

FSU wanted him, so we know he has that "FSU speed." Isn't that what a bunch of you guys wanted? Now you're doubting him?

OP, im just going to jump in and say that 40 times/measurables do not matter. At all. Just because he is similar athletically to Gurley doesnt mean he is cut from the same cloth as him. Its D1 football, not a track meet. He should be a **** good fullback.
