Portal next week - Good news

Yes, but what kind of changes? I see some whispers that it’s not Guidry that’s going to go so I’m wondering what people are hearing.
D$ has said the defense needs a head coach type for the defense. Somebody that’ll have control and respect over that room. I believe that’s what we’ll end up with somewhere on staff. The little noise that I’ve heard leads me to think he’s looking for a high level p4 type’s. Maybe even former head coaches. Hopefully he gets somebody like that to bite. I will say to his credit he normally fixes his mistakes pretty quickly even though he seems to be fixing a lot every offseason lol. Regardless the room should look dramatically different.

What's so great about the portal? We've had over a dozen transfers every year and more than half them every year haven't lived up to expectations. For 2204, we had Ward, Martinez, and Barrow. Everyone else was mediocre or worse.

Quite frankly, I'm sick of the hype. Fans and our media projecting experienced mediocre players as something more than they are.

Raiola ain't it. Like Lagway, he has talent, but the production of both was mediocre at best.

Raiola had 12 TDs and 10 INTS. NO thanks. Hard pass.

Gator fans are all jiggy over Lagway. He may be great one day, but heading into the FSU game he was 32 for 63 with 9 TDs and 7 INTs. That's a 51% passer. Not exactly anything to get excited about. Lagway was 14 for 22 for 133 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT against FSU. He may have a promising future, but his year was more hype than anything. He got credit for the wins, but it was really about the improvement of the Gator defense and team overall.

I point these two out as examples of the play not matching the hype.

I want to see the development of our young talent. It's time for them to have significant roles. It starts with the bowl game.
You never know when you bring in a qb or any other player in the portal. That’s why you spend on the closest to a sure thing as you can find. Even then there’s some questions. Just look at Cam Ward. Some considered him a turnover machine that’s shown to have decision making issues and had a losing record his last year.

That said our returning OL will make a lot of guys look better than previous stops. Having all day to pass seems to have that affect.

Walters from Purdue fits that bill but I'm sure there are way more candidates we have 0 clue of at this time

Raiola's 'admiration' of Mahomes is just weird. Coupled with the de-commitments before settling at Nebraska..and that before even getting to the pedestrian 1st campaign. And now purportedly looking for a better situation because he wasn't surround with enough talent. No thanks. Can't imagine Mario, of all people, going after that guy.

Go get Ryan Walters, now a former HC and did terrific work with the defense and DB's while at Illinois and all things considered at Purdue as well.

two names you and I discussed privately were a bit of a surprise to me when I first heard but I'll tell you I like the idea. Giudy is stubborn, lazy as a recruiter, and cant get along with his staff. JT has basically been calling his schemes and play calls out all year.

I remember being at the Cuse game , and Guidry went over to Taylor to say something, and Taylor just turned around and laughed at him.
