It is also important to note that it was year 4 when Temple made its biggest jump under Golden so this upcoming year will be really revealing.

This.
Golden has enough on the deck to do something which I think he will.
What I'm waiting for AL to reveal is if he knows how to push the teams buttons like the past greats like Howard and JJ did.
They played the "Us against the world" mentality to a tee.
Next season after all this team and the SR's and JR's have been through would be the perfect battle cry.
Leaders need to lead like never before. This will more than likely be Duke's last season so he needs to be one leading the charge.
This ain't Morris's team or Green's team anymore. This is Duke's, Perrymen's, Chikillo's.. They need to step up as leaders. Wouldn't hurt of Williams or Olsen or whoever the *** wins the QB competition step up as well like Dorsey did as a skinny unimposing player but dam was be the consummate team leader.

Gotta take a big picture view here, rather than just fixating on our defensive ineptitude and the egg we laid against Duh-Ville.

Golden hasn't dropped the ball yet, but he hasn't exactly crossed the end zone with it. Since he got the job, he's harped on it being "a process". Even if the NCAA 'cloud' might have been the perfect excuse for under performance...he still had to ******* deal with it. If it means he begrudgingly gets a pass, he gets a pass.

Personally, despite my doubting that he is 'the guy', I'm not sure I envy him. Adding our emphasis on academics and doing things 'clean' with the big money, arms-race aspect of college football, and I think the current environment of college football makes the job more difficult than any coach has had to face since Schnelly. And one of the two big, built in advantages, a prestigious history, is now covered in a fine coat of decay from almost a decade of mediocrity.

However, the time to excel is now, and, if it is a process, then we must proceed to improve.

Him personally i would say i have serious doubts but lets wait and see atleast for another year. The fact he persists with No D makes him a full blown Corch and he will remain that if thats a sign of his judgement and decision making

People can blame Golden for the defensive decline but nobody is looking at how so many guys transferred or got kicked off the team(depth) how schools bashed us for the cloud and we had reduction in scholarship(recruiting depth) how we had great players declare for the draft early (no leadership) we got 9 wins this season and it's due to players growing up and knowing what they are doing. We had bad tackling, missed assignments, and lack of talent out there this past year. I'm ready for the ship to start rolling and I'm loving what golden is putting In these guys mind to bring the u back and to never forget what the u is all about.

Exactly this. The upperclassmen (and leaders) of this group are the ones who signed on to us vs the world. It's not just on Al this year, we should have shoulder chips a plenty to get this thing going in the right direction.

I'm pretty much done with the guy. And this coming from a straight up Golden slurper just 6-7 months ago. The writing is on the wall. I hope i'm wrong

Al has a track record of success turning around bad programs.
Dude has cajones to go to Temple when he could have safely waited out a better gig like Shannon did here and all he did was turn them in to a bowl team in 4 years.
Now he's successfively dealt with another coaching sh!it storm by guiding the program for 3 years while dealing with the pending NCAA sanctions guiding the team to consecutive winning seasons all the while doing it with a ****ty as roster that he inherited.

All in on Al.

I'm sorry, but you said Al has a track record of turning around bad PROGRAMS. As in plural.

Please take the time for the rest of us to provide us with a list.

And while you're working over that long list, how many games has he beaten with winning records?

He took a UVA defense that was ranked 100+ and got them top 20 in 4 years.
Took winless Temple teams and got them to 9 wins in 4 years.
Took a Miami program that averaged 7 wins the last 5 years to 9 wins his 3rd year.

He also took a 22nd ranked UM total defense and put it in the hundreds.

He took a miami team that averaged 7 wins the previous 5 seasons and averaged 7 wins for 3 seasons

I'm so glad you called this one out. Seriously, he took the average, but ignored the fact that Randy also got us up to 9 wins during that average and then he did not use the average for Al.

I pointed this out to someone some time ago, but even with all the guys who have been kicked off the team, and even with the cloud, we have had more and better recruits than teams like Duke, yet Duke doesn't look like a joke on the field. That's the difference in coaching.

No doubt the defense has been lackluster, mainly due to shoddy talent and depth, but given Golden's stout track record of turning things around we should expect him to do the same with the defense.

How's that Top 30 defense looking Miss Cleo?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was all in too, but something is wrong and he is the boss. If his actions this year match his follow the course words, we are in huge trouble and next year's recruiting will be a disaster without him being fired before season and someone like Chud brought in before it is too late to save the 2015 class. After the gator game last year, I thought we were one game from the NC game. Now I look at next year's schedule and wonder if we win 6 games. Something has gone terrible wrong.

GOLDIE LOST A TON OF MY RESPECT WHEN HE WAS DANCIN' WITH PED STATE....IF HE SERIOUSLY WANTED TO EARN SOME LOCAL POINTS WITH FANS & RECRUITS, HE COULD START BY LOSIN' THAT ******' TIE (TO INCLUDE ANY FANTASIES HE HAS OF JO PA / PED STATE) AND COMMITT HIMSELF 110% TO "THE U" .....

I'M NOT A GOLDEN GUY. WHICH ONE OF OUR COACHES THAT WERE SUCCESSFUL EVER DOMINATED FROM DAY ONE? Erickson was our most successful but walked into a gold mine left by JJ. Coker piggy backed off of butch . All of our success was preceded by years of grind mode.

Is golden the guy? IDK.

The only reason people still support this guy is because he stuck it out during the investigation. The supporters might as well lobby to erect an Al Golden shrine at the new Schwartz Center, complete with a statue and all.

While it's all good and dandy he was able to answer the tough questions from reporters, battle his "tail off" on the recruiting trail, and comb his hair real nice to present a clean image during the scandal, it's all aesthetic.

Results are what matters. He is a good, not a great recruiter (clouds or not), a sub-par gameday coach that doesn't seem to posses any ability to make in-game adjustments, and he's too loyal to a support staff that just doesn't get the most out of its players. He hasn't shown improvement as a coach, and I don't mean the 6, 7, and 9-win-type of improvement. We've benefitted from weak schedules, can't win the big games, and struggled against mediocrity and teams with less talent.

I'm surprised we don't have more people fuming he tried to leave for Penn State. I can understand leaving for the NFL, but another college? I don't care if it's his alma mater. He didn't get the job and it negatively impacted our most recent recruiting class. Oh, and you can bet he tried to use the whole "I stuck with Miami during its darkest times" notion while lobbying for that position.

Now it's year four, all of Golden's players are on the roster, and we're probably not going to win the Coastal (again).

This is going to be one long offseason

It will be an even longer one next year bud. Strap yourself in because it's just beginning.

The season will be worse too. Remember we had the illusion of an undefeated season and the NCAA sanctions lifting, to get us through.

Wait, does anyone actually remember that happened?
Nope.

We just need to be patient. Our record has improved every year under him so far. Every one says "just win baby".....well that's the trend right now. Most of the guys from the shannon regime are gone and Al finally has a roster of guys that believe in him. This team will be ****ed off this season with alot to prove. Trust the process sounds so cliché. ...but just have patience, people.

Patient? We haven't been nationally relevant in 10 years. We haven't even won a bowl game in 8 years. The team will be ****ed with a lot to prove? We are really supposed to believe that? Not playing in a bowl game for 2 straight years couldn't **** them off enough to not get completely dismantled by Louisville. You are clueless.

Randy Shannon improved the record every year for the 1st three years too. See why your "argument" sucks?

Just as clueless as pretty much anyone on this board....It's just my opinion dude I'm not basing it off of any facts. That being said, you make a valid point....but this isn't randy shannon. Its Al Golden!

In my opinion, this is incorrect. I support Golden because he is, for better or for worse, at this point, our coach. I choose not to insult and continually criticize because it not productive and certainly not fun. Do I have concerns, of course. We'd all feel better if the season ended with more positives.

I base my optimism on an apparently improving foundation of a football team (improved conditioning, improved recruiting). I believe it is extremely realistic to think that we can compete for the coastal next year. At this point, I'm content with that. Winning the Coastal is something we've never done.

I don't care at all about the Penn State thing. It's a business, it his alma mater, and it would have been a big pay bump. Who wouldn't want the job? But most importantly, it's over. Gone. Done. Time to move on.

I would love for someone to explain to me how it is logical to support someone just because of the position they hold. I suppose you would support your abusive family member, because, you know, for better or for worse, they are your family. Or I suppose that you support a president/politicians you don't agree with simply because, for better or for worse, they are our representatives.

believe it or not a lot of people are like that, but hey its their choice to suffer
