Hear me out.

Tropical Park, of course. But with ticket pricing that’s fan friendly AND Miami-era restaurants surrounding the stadium: Wolfie’s, Joe’s Stone Crab, Egg and You for the Broward people (maybe an Elbo Room bar?). SLoppy Joe’s and other Florida themed bars and Cane themed bars and concessions. Basically a Cane Disneyworld. Retractable roof, palm trees at the East End zone, high arc seating to increase volume. You want the downtown to be in view so they can light up the buildings Orange and Green for the big night games.

But you’ve got to pack the fans in like sardines, to do that you need family friendly pricing not NFL pricing. Oh, and parking garages.
I miss this dearly from the OB. Having a legit skyline in view is a tremendous home field advantage imo. I never make it that far west when I visit Miami, but can you see the skyline from tropical park? Seems too far west from a simple google maps search.

They show south beach al the time during our games and we know how far that is from the stadium. The networks can make it work.

Take out Miami Beach Golf Club, the high school and public works department. There are a few homes that we'd have to buy, but why not? Then you get the Miami skyline from the water and you're right by South Beach for hotels.

Soooo if no one from UM is involved and UM wont own the stadium, reaping all the financial benefits that have been laid out already. How exactly is this different than hardrock situation??? You dont think ruiz wants to profit?? Trust me, tropical is closer to me but i still dnt see how it wouldnt be a horrendous traffic situation.

Yes, but have you read how many people on this thread detest taking anything but their cars and want smooth traffic and parking?
It's off the airport expressway. So a good expressway ramp from northbound. Also, it already has 1 existing garage....add 3-4 more in and a couple lots and we'd be good up to about a 60k person capacity

Just looked up a drone video of tropical park. I’d say you get the same squint eye sight line of downtown as Hard Rock Stadium. Damnit man the OB was so special.

Floating stadium on a barge. Could move it up and down the coast. Spin it around for more favorable wind conditions. Could you imagine taking a timeout before a game winning kick to spin the stadium so the kick is downwind? Make it happen!
WE NEED MORE POSTS LIKE THIS. THANK YOU!

How do you know that UM won't own the stadium? What is the difference between "donating $1B of cash to UM so that it can build a stadium" and "building a $1B stadium and donating it to UM"?

I'm sure the Tropical Park land will still be owned by Dade County, and will be leased to "whoever" for $1 per year. Standard stuff.

If another site is chosen, then the equation changes, and there may need to be more city/county votes on writing the bonds necessary for roadway improvements, etc.

Just seems sketch with UM not involved

Wolfies/rascal house closed in 2008...so **** good...best french toast ever. Man a bit of my childhood died.

I've looked into this and thought the area just north of the Earlington Heights Metrorail station would be perfect. The box outlined by 41st street, NW 22nd Ave, NW 25th Ave, and NW 46th St could be acquired for somewhere in the 60-80M range as it's all single family homes and I'm sure the neighborhood would like the economic stimulus the stadium would bring. It's also in the heart of Miami, near 2 Metrorail stops, and the Park and ride story parking garage. More garages could be added along 41st st next to the airport expressway. A easy ride from both UM Med and UM CG campus'.

Can you do a similar graphic on the Central Shopping Center (located just north of Magic City Casino), between NW 7th Street and NW 11th Street, and between NW 37th Avenue and NW 39th Avenue?

And, ****, if we are talking about tearing down houses, then take the site all the way west to LeJeune.

Nothing says Miami is back in the football business more than we're "considering" knocking down a high school to build a football stadium.

Be great if somebody here would tweet this nugget to the legendary @3YearLetterman

He would have a field day with it ...

THE U IS BAAAAACCCCCK BABY

It's the story of Miami. Knocking down good old stuff for newer shinier stuff.

That's why it always confuses me when people say "it's never gonna happen". It's been happening for 100 years.

Are you serious? Ruiz ISNT DONATING ANYTHING. His intent is to build a stadium, a business venture that will be owned BY HIM, and he will theme the building "Home of The Miami Hurricanes" for football games. UM will pay a lease to Ruiz for stadium use, Ruiz will lease the stadium to other users .. State HS football championships etc. He even mentioned the "area would be built as an entertainment area" so there would be other activities planned so the building and area generates traffic (and revenue) year around, Ruiz isn't donating $1B of case or any assets. BUSINESS venture.

Forgetting that we're talking about the Canes for a moment ...

But the optics of demolishing a high school to build a College Football stadium are beyond comical

Whether it would ever happen or not, gotta let @3YearLetterman know just for the hilarity that would follow

I think you are presuming quite a bit here, and I do have some experience in working on sports/entertainment ventures such as this.

First, if the Tropical Park site plan goes through, he will not own the facility outright. Yes, he may be the one to secure the management contract, and yes, he may buy some surrounding land to be converted into an "entertainment area". And, sure, some can claim that this is going to be a sort of year-round venture, but I'm not sure how much revenue will arise (at least on the stadium portion). Look at your own post, you are talking about "state HS football championships". Uh, yeah...how big are those?

Look, if you put a football stadium in Tropical or a soccer stadium in Melreese, those projects are being sold as "seven" or "seventeen" games/matches per year, with the rest of the year devoted to community events. Concerts are still going to be held at Hard Rock and AA Arena and Sunrise. If you tear down Tropicaire and build something new, that could happen independently anyhow, 7 UM football games won't suddenly make-or-break that entertainment area.

Ruiz will absolutely make a donation. He wants his name on the building. He may also be looking for ancillary income associated with the project, but there will definitely be a donation.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, please don't just build a stadium. Build an entertainment center akin to City Walk at Universal with shops and restaurants. Make it a place you can spend all day. In lieu of being on campus that's the next best thing. Utilize the water features to set a stage overlooking a lake and the stadium, put a bunch of palm trees, and let Gameday show that scene on the broadcast. See how many people rag Miami over their stadium when that happens. Make it a **** event site and something the city can use year round.

Do something different than the boring old stadium surrounded by parking. Build parking garages with green space on top for tailgating. Make it exciting. Make it Miami.

You should tweet your ideas to the Ruiz family. They seem to be active on Twitter and in touch with the desires of the fanbase. Whether this is all legit or grandstanding, couldn't hurt.

Agreed. Particularly when we are talking about Coral Gables.

Look, I never thought Merrick Park would happen, but it did. For that area, the IDEAL option would have been to get both the car dealership land AND the CGHS land and then combine the two sites for a stadium.

But, yeah, comical and hilarious. Fun to think about, but unbelievably unlikely.
