Penn Live Article: Golden Turned Down

Psu was Golden's dream job, fine. He flirted with them, them with him, fine. We know that. We don't know exactly what happened, and I don't really care. What we do know is he went dark for 3 days, recruits got ****ed, current players got ****ed, and now he has to deal with it. In the past week he's lost 3 recruits. Maybe we get TV back, maybe not. Golden was well within his right to flirt with penn state, but now he has to deal with the consequences. He burned bridges with recruits, with fans, and all of that when he barely had any momentum anyway after the disaster of a product he put on the field at the end of the season. Anyone making excuses for Golden, just stop. He knew what he was doing by trying to get the psu job. He brought this on himself.

Yep. The braniacs on here act like this **** happens in a vacuum and that there are no other factors to weigh when you decide to campaign for another job. First, when are you doing it? Is it right before EEs enroll? Probably not great timing. Do you need to go dark for 3 days? Probably not a great move. Should you be taking chances like this immediately coming off the most humiliating loss of the season with the worst prepared team I've ever seen take the field? Maybe not such great timing given everyone's opinion of you coming off that beatdown.

Fat Al proved he has no feel for the pulse of the community or the climate around the program when he decided to make these moves. Instead of talking to them for a minute and then coming right back and acting like UM is the best job in the world and that he was fully 100% committed, he decided to mope around for a week hoping they'd still offer him the job. Meanwhile, everyone's seeing through his act, and he's losing recruits. I'm sure he's lost a few more players that he hadn't already lost by the end of that humiliating Rustled game. I don't know how the big dummy's gonna get guys to buy in when they know he doesn't even buy in. And on top of all that, he's made ZERO effort to fix the most historically pathetic defense in the life of UM football. Yeah, go ahead and tell me that I don't know what he's doing behind the scenes to fix it. He and Duh are suddenly going to become defensive geniuses and sit in the lab during the offseason and concoct a remedy for the abomination that they haven't been able to remotely repair for 3 years. Yeah. Sure they are.

His only hope with smart fans was to scrap the entire busted D of his, hire a strong DC, and leave that part of the program up to him. I doubt that even would have worked because of his overall ineptitude as demonstrated by the Rustled Bowl, his poor evaluations, and every other game we've played against a decent opponent. But at least it would have been and EFFORT to fix instead of shoving his fat arrogance down everyone's throat. At least Shannon tried to make it work by trying new coordinators.

This dude is telling everyone, "You didn't see what you actually saw. I know what's going on even though I haven't been able to do a **** thing about it in 3 years. You're all dumb."

I find it hilarious that people that wanted Golden gone before his PSU flirtation are now mad at him for thinking of leaving.
And save the whole "its how he did it" crap. There is no good way of doing it especially in a high stakes world like college football.
