Penn Live Article: Golden Turned Down

This is over. I have moved on from this debacle. Let's root for the team and hope for the best.

We need more charismatic leadership like this on the board. This man said it's over, and, I'll tell ya, I feel like it's over now. I think I was just waiting for someone to make that bold proclamation.

Let's get this thing going, Al! We love you and are glad you're here!

I've been following CFB for a very long time and I've never seen someone f$%k something up the way Al did with this situation. The closest things I can think of were the situations with Elliot Spitzer in NY and Senator Weiner from NY and both of those guys had to resign. IMO, Al will not feel enough pressure from anyone to resign and he clearly doesn't possess the integrity to resign of his own volition. Assuming that I am correct, I just don't see the point in banging that drum continually.

As far as loving Al, and being glad that he's here, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Al is a fraud. He can't coach and he apparently doesn't recruit very well in South Florida. He wanted out of Dodge because the walls are closing in on him and everyone can see that he not only gets his *** kicked on the field, he gets his *** kicked off the field on the recruiting trail. As you know, no one was rooting harder for him to get that Ped State gig than I was because it was our best opportunity to rid ourselves of him. Now it appears that the decision makers at Ped State were smart enough to realize that he isn't a very good coach and it looks like we are stuck with him. Am I going to root against the kids on the team? F&%k no. Am I going to root against the school? Same answer. Realistically, this thing will work itself out because if he's as bad a coach as he's looked over the past three years, then he will continue losing and he will be gone, or, if he was a victim of players who weren't up to par and he replaces them with players who can contribute, then he will win and it will build.

Lmao u compared golden to spitzer and weiner...and it is a great comparison...al is a politician through and through

lol @ our fans thinking Golden said no thanks.

Ya that's why he disappeared for 3 days and risked recruits jumping ship (like they are doing now).

Some of you are fvckin blind or retarded. Most likely both.

No one is thinking anything. It's just what happened. Read the below again.. Slowly if you have to.

"The call to Golden was placed late Thursday afternoon, according to Poorman, and seemed to be a matter of simple courtesy. Golden had previously made statements that he would remain at Miami, and Penn State's search process moved on to Franklin, Mike Munchak and Greg Roman."

What a stupid piece, it reads like PSU is trying to save face. This statement makes no sense. Reads to me like they were interested, he said no and they moved on.

Just the fact that he went that far with PSU is disgusting enough for me. You can believe whatever you want about this situation but HE alone is responsible for this mess at the U.

So he can't have interest in higher paying jobs?

and believe this...there will be MOAR that comes out about this in the future BELIEVE THAT. Oh yeah, these kids won't fall for any old thing, you (AG) better have your sh^t straight or else you're gonna suffer moar recruiting losses in the future. THINK THESE KIDS WILL FALL FOR MESS THESE DAYS if you want.

You can have interest in higher paying jobs...but, be above board about it. The thief in the night routine has already been done here before.

Golden haters are going to hate. There's no use trying to convince the, Until he brings them back No. 6, they will not accept him now. But the fact remains that he is the Canes coach, probably for at least another two years, so I guess we have to decide if we're going to support our team or continue to knock it down every chance we get. Golden is not perfect, he could have handled this situation better no question. But IMO a lot of the blame lays with PSU and the crappy way they handled the situation and used his love for his alma mater to their advantage. Probably as leverage to get the coach they think they wanted. I'm going to save my hate for that scandalized school and keep supporting our teams' coach. Looks like the hating fans on this site outnumber the ones who want to support him but so be it. Believe, have faith and support, hate and tear down every move, or go find another team.

Get off your soap box and come back down to reality. Most people don't make their job hunting public.
And coaching is no different.
You really think it's a smart idea for a coach to come out and publicly make their coaching intentions known?
How naive are you?

well let's see here, the man came here under the pretense that this is his destination job. NOE OF US EVER HELD A GUN TO THAT MAN'S HEAD AND TOLD HIM TO SAY THAT. I could continue on but I will stop there.

I've supported Golden from day one.

Not for one minute do I believe he turned them down. If Penn State wanted him and they could've put together a deal before sundown on Sunday, he's be in Happy Valley as of Monday morning and never would've had to fake his way through that Joe Rose interview.

I couldn't be more disappointed in how the past week has played out (regarding Golden's actions and demeanor).

For his sake—and the Miami program—I hope he can shake it off and right the ship.

I feel like some jaded wife who caught her squeaky-clean husband cheating and now I'm wondering if the whole relationship was a lie ... but we have kids, so we're sort of stuck for the time being and I don't forgive the dude.

Dave Joyner has as much love by their fans as our does for coach D......

Read into the whole mess before bringing up one headline on a lost and confused AD....

**** is getting old

Less than Coach D. Joyner is despised.

But, but Canes4Life and the golden slurpers said he turned them down. How could this be true? And that Golden was going to spin it so it could benefit him in recruiting.

I'm still waiting on the spin. 3 down, anytime now Al...

I thought the spin was that Golden turned down his Alma Mater to finish what he started at Miami. Wasn't there some comments recently from recruits who said this? I can't really remember right now

I'm talking about the spin where it benefits him in recruiting. We have lost 3 recruits. Time to step it up golden al and preach the 8 commandments and talk about the cloudiness... smh

The fact that Al reappeared after 3 days in the Fortress of Solitude acting as if nothing were wrong is where he lost me.

When it became obvious he wasn't going to get his dream job, he needed to change the discourse. It was a perfect opportunity to make a statement and appease the grumblings of the fan base by making a few key changes. If he fires Dorito, replaces him with a high level coordinator, then all of a sudden we have some positive news, some positive momentum.

Imagine if he hired someone like Jim Leavitt? Then you can roll to someone like Valentine and say 'hey bish, i'm committed to getting us back to the top of the mountain'. He replaces Dorito after his time underground, all of a sudden he has an excuse you can sorta understand, and I bet most of the natives wouldn't be holding pitchforks and torches while storming the castle right about now. The fact that he didn't use the ready excuse of our ineptitude on defense and make a discourse-changing decision tells me he wasn't worried about playing the 'long view', wasn't worried about being the best.

Instead of playing the whole thing into a positive, now, he just looks like a groom left at the alter, sobbing into a handkerchief while his best friend Dorito holds him tight.

That is not the real world. My sense is you have not been in the business world long or are still in school. Whenever you interview for a job, that company is the one that you want the most, at least that is what you tell them. Sort of like telling the ugly girl that she is pretty so you can get in her pants.

People turn down there dream school all the time. Look at Cook, Lane, Sony, Clarke, etc...They all turned down there dream school. So it's possible, lol. Cane on!!!

Psu was Golden's dream job, fine. He flirted with them, them with him, fine. We know that. We don't know exactly what happened, and I don't really care. What we do know is he went dark for 3 days, recruits got ****ed, current players got ****ed, and now he has to deal with it. In the past week he's lost 3 recruits. Maybe we get TV back, maybe not. Golden was well within his right to flirt with penn state, but now he has to deal with the consequences. He burned bridges with recruits, with fans, and all of that when he barely had any momentum anyway after the disaster of a product he put on the field at the end of the season. Anyone making excuses for Golden, just stop. He knew what he was doing by trying to get the psu job. He brought this on himself.
