Part of the problem with Guidry

It’s very common in football at all levels that in conference games, teams will scheme for you and seek favorable matchups. Every Power 4 team should certainly expect that. If your defense or defensive players have a weakness that shows up on film, the opponents will run plays to exploit that weakness over and over again until you prove that you can adjust and stop it. It’s not rocket science, the Canes need to adjust and that falls on Guidry and his coaches

I know we used Bain in more of a 5 tech today but I’d like to see Mesidor do the same on other side. I just don’t like mesidor inside. Especially on first and second downs.

I wondered about this at the start of the season. Baron, at UT, has played 5T and even 3T on passing downs. But here, we play him on the edge exclusively. I honestly felt like it was part of a promise to Baron or something because he has more experience playing inside than mesidor

Kind of an underappreciated observation. The UM D somehow gets better in the second half of games all season. If it was a pure talent issue, you wouldn’t see that. It would be much more variable- sometimes locking down first half, giving up points second half. But we always get better in the second half. So that suggests to me that there is a coaching problem in the first half- not able to adjust to what the O is doing. Second half he starts to figure out the offense and the calls get better.
Really lends credence to the 'Guidry not being used to 6 opposing team analysts or so scheming against him all week because they have P5 level resources' narrative.

He's a career non-P5 coordinator for the most part.

I think he can grow but he better find a way to expedite 2nd half adjustments to the third drive.

When a guy who spent his whole career is at a G5, he might be comfortable coaching G5 talent. Pruitt and Quan make plays in limited time yet he won't play them and other younger more athletic kids over upperclassmen who kill us. Almost all the td's against us come off big plays which are given up by Kiko, Richards, and Hill or because of Porter's lazy tackling. How worse could Washington or Stafford be?
It's starting to remind me of the "can he play safety?" video when he said to Paul Williams who's the best safety we ever coached and he said Jaquan Jarrett right away even though they had Reyshawn Jenkins and Deon Bush, both of whom have been in NFL for a long time.
At this point we need to play the younger guys more like Patterson, Frederique, stafford, and Brown when he gets back and we can only do better. They have talent and will take their lumps but are better than some of the upper classmen. It's tough to figure out sometimes if it's more on coaching with the D or players but maybe it is a combination.

1. We're still playing the same personnel that keeps failing. 7 is still back there ******** up.
2. Young players not getting any burn as a result.
3. Wrong personnel at corner, DPJ is still playing nickel.
4. Didn't see Popo once the entire game (injury?)
5. Schematically feel like players can't execute anything.

What Guidry calls at times confuses the living **** out of me. Players don't seem to communicate it or get it either. At the same time, I'm seeing OJ yesterday and I'm like... **** is working? Evidently?
1.) exactly. quan is all over the field and we are playing Harris. smh
2.)they need too. this game they did more.
3.)DPJ is just checked out no matter were hes playing imo
4.)popo is apparently hurt
5.)I agree.

You could see that one touchdown coming before the ball was even snapped. Duke got exactly what they wanted on that play and exposed Kiko for a long TD.
Precisely. Had that been the first or second time we saw that, then ok. You too your hat and move on, then adjust. But this is happening over and over again. It’s like watching your friend chase his ex-girlfriend around knowing it’s going to end badly.

Guidry: "Cam, watch this film for 5 minutes and tell me who you would attack"

Cam: "The portal"

Guidry: "Cam, I am serious"

Cam: "I am going to need another blue book"

Not much of a pass rush should be the biggest surprise which doesn’t help an already suspect secondary.
Is the dl’s lack of rush also a product of us not being able to cover anyone. With the exception of Frédérique the corners give so much cushion.

Guidry was good last year outside of a few ****** games. He changed the whole d to fit what the players were good at and it worked. This year it's the exact opposite and he refuses to adapt and acts like the DBs can play sticky man coverage. He's overly aggressive with stupid stunts and **** but it never works.

He needs to play more base zone D and make offenses actually earn points. He's been a massove disappointment this year and may need to go if he doesn't adjust in the next game or two.
Seems like we haven't improved much since the first game, and we seem to keep getting beat on the same things over and over.

when fans are clamoring for backups to see playing time, there are cases where you have a genuinely stupid or vindictive coach who is playing the wrong guys because of incompetence, favoritism, etc. but that happens much less frequently than the alternative, which is that the coaches simply see these guys every day and know which ones will get them in less trouble on gameday. we can't know for sure what's happening with guidry and ZP, but i really don't think he's that incompetent. he put together a pretty respectable unit last year.
