Do you know why the drug trade moved to Norfolk, VA from Miami?

They passed a law in Florida during the mid-80s that, if, a bank was caught with laundered money they would lose their Florida charter... A Citi or JPMorgan can lose Florida and still function quite well, but such an event is immediate bankruptcy for the TotalBanks, International Bank of Miamis or Easter Nationals or Professionals..... Also, the state government did not mind the drug trade until they realized that they could reap markedly more from tourism. They passed the law AFTER South Beach became a "destination". When the State realized that they would make more from less violence and greater tourism, they passed this law (i.e. the "white glove law").

The state absolutely loved the money the drug traded was bringing in. No one stopped going to Disney or bush gardens because dudes were whacking each other in Kendal and Miami Lakes. The population in Miami actually grew a lot during that time. The only people ****ed off were some the hotel owners in Miami Beach.
The federal reserve branch in Miami had more cash on hand than all of the other federal reserve branches combined.

The only reason that law passed was because the big banks were ****ed that they weren’t getting a piece of the action. I remember the days when you drove down Flagler, 8th street, coral way and bird road and every corner had some bank you’ve never heard of and all of them were giant laundromats. Drug dealers would never trust a national Bank like Citibank back in the day. That law decentralized the cocaine trade and now every coastal city and state bordering Mexico could play ball.
More money and cocaine is beiing made now than in the 80’s. 1 million dollars in Benjamins weighs 22 lbs and the cocaine trade alone is worth about 100 billion a year. How the fugg do you hide that and move it to Colombia Mexico Peru or Bolivia? They sure as **** ain’t strapping it to some chicks with duct tape.
HSBC admited that they laundered money for the Mexican cartels and Wachovia got caught doing it too. The wachovia case never even went to trial it was so shady..
If someone figured out how to cover up 100 billion in revenue then you bet your **** colleges figured out how to give kids some Money.

How a big US bank laundered billions from Mexico's murderous drug gangs
