Guidry 1st half- sees things that aren’t on film

The defence is Jekyll and Hyde. We seem to flip a switch in the second half:
Duke - 3 points (and it should really have been 0, Diaz waved the white flag there)
VT - 10 points
USF - 0 points
Florida - 7 points (and that was backups)
The Duke and VT games could have got out of hand if they'd kept scoring. Against Cal we held them to 3 points in the 4Q when the game was on the line.
Also, I'm sorry he got hurt and I hope he has a full recovery, but Jadais Richard being injured is not a bad thing. He's been terrible all year.
Because then you stifle our best asset and best player. Why not pound the ball in the first half and keep the defense off the field as much as possible? Nobody has stopped us yet.
bc then you limit the explosiveness of your offense and what makes us special. teams would want us to do that rather than cam ward do what he does. at some point, the d has to step up and get stops. Why not pound the ball in the first half and keep the defense off the field as much as possible? Nobody has stopped us yet.
You literally described man to man defense. And yes, we play far too much man to man coverage considering we can’t cover anyone.why do yall say “ Guidry needs to get his **** together” this is game 9. This is who he is. He ain’t making any drastic changes, this is what his defense is right now. Our DB’s aren’t good but he makes their job nearly impossible to even be good. DB’s don’t pass guys off, they just chase who they are defending when they get put in motion. There is literally no room for error if you are playing that way as a DB. The personnel isn’t great, but his scheme is extremely bad at this level.
B and nobody in the flats.
If you could, what would you suggest to Guidry to do insteadMy biggest concern is that we look like a Chinese fire drill at times. Can't line-up in time, kids looking confused, offensive guys wide open, etc.
If we were just getting beat physically I would say it's strictly a talent issue, but that's not always the case. We're misaligned and getting out-schemed a lot.
On one Duke touchdown we had 2 defenders running free at the QB and nobody in the flats. Easy score.
On another TD we were playing man versus a bunch formation, which is asking for trouble. WR runs a whip route from the bunch (man beater) and it's an easy score. Even at the HS level, we don't stay in man coverage versus bunch sets, we check out of it.
Offenses are motioning and our making our Nickel chase across the field then snapping the ball, leaving us out-leveraged and misaligned for easy completions.
Our determination to stay in Quarters coverage is being schemed against us IMO. When that fails our response is to go to Cover-1 Man. OC'S know this and our scheming for it IMO.
They're manipulating theout of us.
i also hate how we can never recognize a screenThere is never anyone in the flats…3rd and 4th down simple flats, flare outs by backs, pick plays or even outside runs have turned into nightmares against us…Easy pitch and catch turning into easy scores in red zone (Duke) or huge plays (Cal)
We do, but it's always after they have ran at least 2 successful screens.i also hate how we can never recognize a screen
With last year offense, teams could play it closer to the vest. This offense is so dynamic, that teams need to match it, so dam be punting on 4th down.Yes, but this defense is not what the stat sheet shows.
It’s a stats vs statistics thing that I’m getting at. Looking at it from a statistics standpoint the 3 games I pointed out (UF too but they’re P4 so can be included) look like they may be statistical anomalies and discarded. Then you get a better picture of our defense statistically.
Does that make sense?
I mean when most ACC teams that we face put up season high point totals and close to season high passing totals, it leads to what we see in this thread.
People argue that our defense is “not that bad, look at the stats!” But if you watch the games you realize our defense is terrible. The worst we’ve had in a decade.
The one bright spot is the run defense but I think teams are gashing us through the air so there is no need to really test us in the run game.
I’m glad you mentioned this because a big part of our issue is that we’re often out of position when the ball is snapped. Any time there’s a shift or motion on offense, we’re running some kind of scramble drill on defense to get guys lined up correctly. I don’t think we’re doing anything that crazy that our guys should be struggling so much but I don’t know what the calls are.My biggest concern is that we look like a Chinese fire drill at times. Can't line-up in time, kids looking confused, offensive guys wide open, etc.
