Petrino.

Clearly a pipe dream, but getting Briles would be a knockout hire. Great offensive mind, and remarkable job recruiting in a state where larger, more traditional programs are fighting for the same kids he is talking to.

Whether you love or hate Golden, most would agree his ability as a recruiter far exceeds his skills as a tactician, game day coach, and developer. Shouldn't the primary attribute in the next coach be someone who can recruit phenomenally in a highly competitive market AND develop players?

Can Petrino satisfy those requirements? Yes. He tried the NFL thing, and is not a threat to use us as a stepping stone for the big leagues. He has had great success as a recruiter and developer, and has an aggressive philosophy that befits us.

How about Tubberville?

Makes way more since then most these names.. I wanted him over Shannon & Golden. People sleep on how great of a track record he has as a HC.. All he does is win. We don't need ****, we need results.

Enlighten me about Tuberville's great track record.. his teams have won more than ten games only twice in his eighteen seasons

Better grab Petrino before Florida grabs him next year.

I love how Tubbs dipped out to take the Cinci job. At a steak dinner with recruits/players, takes phone call, never comes back to the table. Lawl.

Compared to Petrino who has done it four times in nine seasons

Yup. Max one more year at Western Kentucky. No way he plays out the contract. New school contract would help mitigate the WK buyout.

Better put some heavy buyout clauses if we are getting Olive Garden so he gets no idea of leaving - just in case.

Since an NFL return is something he is really unlikely to do, the only real risk is him going to a better college job. Texas(as of today), FSU, Auburn, Bama, Mich State, Ohio State, Stanford, South Carolina, USC, Oregon(Helfrich not going anywhere), Clemson, Ok State, LSU, UCLA, Wisconsin, Georgia, A & M, Notre Dame, Michigan have stability in either tenured successful coaches or new hires with a lot of rope.

As gordon mentioned, Florida is obviously a possibility, as is Oklahoma if Stoops leaves, but both programs have had more recent successes than us, and would be less likely to hire a guy with that kind of baggage. I think most of the other guys being talked about would prefer an NFL job, or would like to use a college program to eventually build to a big league gig.
