These guys all had at least one season of playing time under their belts:
Telemaque
McGee
Chickillo
Perryman
Gaines
Smith
Finnie
Highsmith
Rodgers
Pierre
Grimble
Cain
Green
Luther
Cornelious
What we have is a lack of talent, but we shouldn't be this bad. Not even close to this bad.
Agree with what Larry said about our opponents but even with that, UNC, Duke, USF & UVA have to be wins. That's 8-4. You steal one of ND, FSU or VTech and it's a pretty special season.

Not sure what you are arguing here. You agree we have a lack of talent, and then highlight a number of guys w/ at least "a season" under their belts.
The best player and defensive leader - perryman - has been out for the last two games. Finnie and an undersized grimble had spot duty last year; both would have redshirted, but for our horrendous talent and depth (incl suspensions) last year. Pierre and smith were desperation signees, bc randy had no dl recruits lined up.
Rodgers and highsmith would not start at FIU.
Cain, Gaines, and green? Are these the defensive stars that should have us competing w/ Alabama and LSU?
That list only highlights the monumental challenge donofrio has faced all year.
amazing that the numbers are sooo bad, but yet here we are still undefeated in conference.
Usually those numbers mean that at some point we'll see a regression back to the mean. Not trying to be a hater but just realistic.
We have also played some of the worst teams in the conference.
rok what's up with Sentimore? why isn't he playing?
114th in Total Defense
112th in Rush Defense
91st in Pass Defense
98th in Scoring Defense
100th in Defensive Pass Efficiency
82nd in Tackles for Loss
90th in Sacks
100th in First Downs Allowed
94th in 3rd Down Conversion % Allowed
Yep. Although I would add Chickillo to the list of players currently playing well. He's certainly not a trainwreck.I just wanted to see the defense at least improve somewhat as the season goes on. Give me some glimmer of hope that guys are getting it or that you are able to adapt.
Perryman and E. Johnson are good. Bush is coming along nicely. And McGee is surprisingly steady. Everyone else is a trainwreck.
The biggest problem with the defense is the d line. It gets tossed off the ball with ease in the run game, and it can't sniff the QB vs the pass. This is reason #1 we are horrible.
I don't know if it's true that we actually stop anyone 50% of the time in any situation, but I think the answer to your question is likely related to our d-line. They're just not very good when they have to simultaneously defend the run and rush the passer (i.e., when they don't know what's coming). But in obvious short yardage running situations we're probably stacking the box. Generally speaking we're getting better play out of our LB's and CB's than I expected. Can someone please explain to me how our defense can get shredded against the run but when the opposing team only needs a yard we stop them half the time???
What are the statistics regarding the number of threads about the defense week by week, the posts that are intelligent and those that beat a dead horse expecting massive improvements overnight?
A quick observation shows we rank next to last in intelligent posts, top 10 in beating a dead horse, and top 5 in unreasonable expectations and entitled/spoiled/***** fans.
4-1 (3-0) with lots of improvements to make - missed throws, dropped balls, missed blocks, penalties and missed assignments to start. Some are buying into the brick by brick, fans and players, others expect a brick this week, and a 6 bedroom house in two weeks.
Any thoughts of coming together as a fan base for the team - starting with some reasonableness?

Turnovers are largely a random occurrence. We can't depend on them to save us every game.
