OC Discussion Thread

Al will bring someone in that fits his philosophy and Al will be calling the shots from a distance. He will set the parameters for the offense just like he did this year with Fisch.

He needs to hire a great "teacher", with attention to detail. I believe he will.

I know Al isn't Saban, but look at his offenses at Bama and keep in mind Saban is a defensive minded coach. They hired a new O-Coord. this year from outside the system, however, the offensive philosphy didn't change.

Point being......good coaches actually have an offensive and defensive philosophy and they stick with it. It's not like he's just going to "turn over the offensive side of the ball" to the next OC ala Randy Shannon. Golden will keep the ship in the right direction.

I said as soon as this news broke that it wouldn't surprise me to see Dana Bible step in seamlessly.

He has a son on the VT baseball team, so he may want to stick around ACC country for the next 1-2 years.
I think he would be a good hire.

I have faith in Golden to bring in the right guy! Don't know about Mangino as he might have a stroke in the Florida heat. Good luck to Fisch in the pros, but the timing of the loss is unfortunate during the huge recruiting weekend.

Guys, it has to be somebody with OC experience. Golden thinks we can win big this season, he's not going to want to try to have some guy learn on the job this year. This hire will be somebody with OC experience, I can almost guarantee that.

Seriously though Larry, check out Bobby Wilder. I think you'd be impressed.

Bob Stitt would be here for two years and he'd be off head coaching somewhere in D1...give the man a call.

Now we're poppin.

Yup.

**** some of these names...McNulty...Jagodzinski (dude is a ****, and a bum)...Dana Bible (good coach, old as ****...I don't see the fit on a staff is filled with energy guys)...Jeff Tedford (will make more sitting at home and working for the Pac12 Network)...c'mon folks.

Gimme Bob Stitt.

The only worry with Bible is that he's older than Ser Barristan, but if he has 4 years left in him, Olsen would have his coach for all 4 years. Bible handled QB and WR coaching I believe, so he could also help Carroll acclimate to his new position.

I worry that if we bring in a young guy, he might be 1 and done with the offense we have next year. We will light up teams and a young guy could jump straight to a HC position after one season.

I know of Bobby Wilder...good coach...he'll be a HC in the FBS soon.

But I ride with Bob Stitt.

Quote from USA Today article:

Stitt says he'd be willing to move up as an offensive coordinator, but only if the head coach would give him total offensive control.

Isn't happening nor do I want that to happen.

I read that he runs an innovative offense..Care to elaborate?

You see a ton of what he does in college football on the big stage already...Starship Dana, Kevin Sumlin, Todd Monken, Chad Morris, Chip Kelly all use a ton of what Stitt runs at Mines.

Worrying about losing coaches is a complete waste of time because if your coaches are good, you are going to win games...and if you win games, your coaches
are going to be moving out to bigger jobs.
I would rather have that scenario than he have an undesirable coaching staff that can't win anything.
This is the landscape of college football these days.

and when Stitt moves on in two years you replace him with who? Mumme? That offensive philosophy just doesn't jive with Al Golden. Not that I'm opposed to it, but it would appear to go against everything that Golden would like to stand for on offense.
