Observation on Burns

i think you guys are waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too optimistic about carter's potential to contribute next season. his junior film is all him returning punts and playing offense. maybe he's really progressed as a senior or something, but he strikes me as a guy that will have a big adjustment before he can contribute.

no it isn't. Do we have someone with his upside at corner? No. Do we have someone with his upside at safety? Yes.

You want your four best on the field, that's the bottom line. Whose spot is he gonna take at corner?

Anybody's. Who's spot is he taking at Safety? You're also discounting Jamal Carter at Safety.

I'll tell you this much - Highsmith and Rogers are not part of the "best 4"

At what point do you put 4 safeties on the field in a game?

2 corners and 2 safetys einstein.

2+2=4 defensive backs

Burns is a CB all the way, IMO.

Unless Burns exhibits next-level safety instincts, you play him at CB.

Bush, Carter, and Jenkins are all great athletes with range. Let them develop there.

Burns could be a shutdown CB.

You don't think safetys need great range?

Teams rarely play with only 4 defensive backs these days. Over 65% of plays are run with 5 DBs or more. The 5th and 6th DBs are typically corners.

You could be right but the same things were said about Bush and Jenkins. Maybe its miracle work at coaching but Carter is ahead of where they both were as far as safety play.

Could be. Jenkins is the only question. For all we know Crawford could be more talented.

LOL unless you're Miami last year, and 90% of your third downs are like 3rd and 2. :rollcanes:

And somehow still decide to play 5 DBs + Cornelius.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Darrelle Revis is more valuable than Ed Reed. When you can take away the opponents #1 option in the passing game, you give yourself a lot better chance. Most offenses are in 3 WR sets for the majority of the game. There is a premium on guys who can play corner back.

I think Burns is simply a much more rare commodity at CB.

He could be great at either position, but he could be a top 10 pick at CB with his size, speed, and aggressiveness.
