Observation on Burns

lmao @ the idea of gunter being an all-acc player.

i think burns has to start at corner just looking at the depth chart unless the staff feels great about guys like hope & dortch that have never played. i'd doubt that tho. i think in the future he's a safety but the versatility can't hurt either way... ryan hill was an underrated player for that reason.

I think he's a safety. He's a prototypical safety.

Yep. His coach thinks so too.

What makes a good weak safety?

You want him to have safety size. - CHECK

You want him to have great range, like a hurdler in track - CHECK

You want him to play the ball high in the air, moving left or right - CHECK

You want him to have safety instincts - CHECK

You want him to be able to handle audible calls - WHO KNOWS

You want him to be physical - CHECK

Corners are always more valuable than safeties, so if a guy with Burns' talent can play CB, put him there.

I think on past Miami teams, Bush would have started at CB. But with the lack of quality safety play we had this year, the need was just too great.

Never said he wouldn't be a great safety. Given the choice between Ed Reed and Darrelle Revis, you take Darrelle Revis every single day and twice on Sundays

I'm as excited about carter and burns as you guys are but they have never played a down in college yet. They first have to beat out Jenkins, who towards the end of the year was balling.

There was a point when Burns and Jenkins hadn't played a down. Playing in the back end as a freshman is far less demanding than playing up front. Demanding, no doubt, but less demanding. It's not far fetched to expect that kids with the athleticism of Carter and Burns could play soon and early.

Completely get what your saying, all I'm saying is people are trying to annoint them starters already. I hope they are up to speed but we all know as these athletes rise from hs to college then to the NFL the game speeds up considerably. First we need to see if they can catch up to that transition( which is 90% mental ) and then to top it off they have to outplay a guy who has a year of college experience under his belt and was coming into his own quite nicely the last couple of games. I'm not trying to s*** on anyones parade, just trying to be realistic. As a canes fan i hope they ball from day one.

I think Burns plays corner and Carter plays safety. Great problem to have anyway you slice it...

I would rather have him at Safety is athleticism will be needed there to back up Bush, Jenkins, and Carter, especially after this season. I think thats why we are after R. Robinson... Golden is recruiting him as a Safety... This time last year a ton of people where saying Bush would be better at CB, now look they are eating their words. Well they will eat their words once again. The depth at Safety is not deep at all. The staff is looking long term and they have 5 CB's which is a bit light yes but they are good I believe. All the corners we have will get playing time this year and we are gonna fall in love with them... especially one of the RS FR like Dortch or Hope. The only way he plays CB is if we dont bring in a true CB....

Being that he can play CB or S is a huge plus. He can play wherever he is needed. If he is ready to play then he will play. Guys that can play both and not be a liability are such a luxury to have. You guys are splitting hairs here. He will play wherever he is needed.

What is wrong with Gunter? Until the underclassmen show out, Gunter is the #1 CB for now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Gunter, but his ceiling is probably a bit lower than Howard/Burns etc and the hope is those guys would eventually beat him out.

If he's a ballhawk I want him @ safety. We desperately need someone back there that can create turnovers.
