Observation on Burns

I would rather have him at Safety is athleticism will be needed there to back up Bush, Jenkins, and Carter, especially after this season. I think thats why we are after R. Robinson... Golden is recruiting him as a Safety... This time last year a ton of people where saying Bush would be better at CB, now look they are eating their words. Well they will eat their words once again. The depth at Safety is not deep at all. The staff is looking long term and they have 5 CB's which is a bit light yes but they are good I believe. All the corners we have will get playing time this year and we are gonna fall in love with them... especially one of the RS FR like Dortch or Hope. The only way he plays CB is if we dont bring in a true CB....

Nobody is eating their words on Bush being a corner. I'm almost positive that he could have been just as good at Corner as he was at Safety, it was a matter of choice and the need was greater at safety, when you consider that we had a talented senior in McGee already at Corner. We NO talent at Safety, therefore the decision to move Deon to Safety was made easier.

yeah I don't think it can be overstated enough how important it is to have a guy at the safety position that can truly affect each and every passing down and create turnovers. I know how important it is to have strong corners but imo a ballhawking safety that makes plays is so important for a defense to be successful.

You rather have Ed Reed or Darrelle Revis?

### With Thomas Finnie no longer on the UM team in the wake of his offseason arrest, summer arrival Artie Burns will have a chance of cracking a four-man rotatation at cornerback. Ladarius Gunter, Tracy Howard and Antonio Crawford figure to be UM's top three corners.

This has been repeated countless times here. Think of it this way: it's Artie Burns against Dortch (who i like) and Hope. Except, injuries happen and guys fall off. So before we see a Tracy Howard and Antonio Crawford duo, for example, I think they'd throw Artie Burns or Dortch out wide and let Crawford play the slot. The bottom line is that every team needs 5 corners who can really play. Artie Burns should be a Corner here.

The past, mainly. We've had transcendent safeties. Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Daryl Williams and Bennie Blades. That's ******* ridiculous, man. Add in a host of other guys who were excellent safeties, and there's a mythology with the position here.

But, also the current NFL. The NFL really requires playmakers at the Safety position. More than ever, as Larry and I discussed last week, the game is about a QB being able to move a safety or fit a pass in a window created by a Safety.

I get why people are enamored with Safety, but I think we'll have 3 very good prospects there in Bush, Jenkins and Carter.

With next years secondary, however they line-up, Bush, Burns, Carter, Howard, Jenkins, Gunter, Crawford. We will be able to close out games once we have the lead: al la FSWho!!!!

This is my thought process as well. Many people think that Burns is just going to jump right over Jenkins and that ain't the case. Rayshawn can really ball. Big kid who is probably going to 6'2 210-215.

So who says that Dortch and Hope wont develop and might have something to say about that, there bodies and minds are a year developed and they will have a Utough under there belts before Burns gets here... Burns may not jump over anyone and may just have to wait his turn... barring an injury or suspension. Burns is a great talent but he may just have to wait his turn...

Because there is an appreciable difference in the physical ability of Hope and Dortch in comparison to Burns. Artie is a legit 6'1 and a buck 80. Learning curve is one thing, but there are physical capabilities that Burns possesses as we speak that the other two don't. Sure, the other guys could make an appreciable jump, but as of now, they aren't better than Burns, and if they are better than Burns, we are going to have a phenomenal secondary next season.

While talking about DB's in general, what's the deal with Troy McCollum? I've seen some mixed reviews about this kid, but looks to have good frame (6'0"), and he's a MIami kid. I know he's not on our list, but if something opens up, any chance we take a flyer on this kid???

Bush, Jenkins, Carter have it long-term and Rodgers, etc., can help in a pinch.

Burns' upside value at corner is ridiculous and he can potentially step in for Gunter. I think he works his way on the field by the end of next season.

Really want Burns at CB, he's going to be a stud.

Good point. With what appears to be an exceptional ability to cover ground, given his hurdler's speed, you wonder if he would be wasted at corner (although he would be great there). At safety, he can make plays all over the field. He might be a fantastic cover corner, but he wouldn't be able to range all over the secondary being a difference maker. A lot of guys have sprinter's speed and quickness in a short area and can be good corners. I don't know if a lot of those guys could roam the secondary and get to plays in a hurry.

Golden and D'Ono played that many players because he had to last season. You won't see those kind of numbers getting quality PT this upcoming year.

Rodgers has me screaming at the tv more than any other defensive player. His tackling gives me ulcers. I can only hope carter become a freshman beast.
