Nick Roberts

Again..if this kid played for Carol City, Booker T, St Thomas, or Miami Central and we didnt offer him this board would be calling for Mike Rumphs head. (notice I said MRumph..nobody blames anything on Richt on this board concerning DB recruiting for some reason)

If he was at a top S. FL HS he'd be a backup.

Lets not make this a long thread about Nick Roberts again. The site is clearly divided on his skills and the staff doesnt think hes a fit. Fair enough. I hope we got a plan because depending on 2018 kids doesnt help us next year.

Nick must have all the huge offers now right? Is he committed to Alabama?

Bama hasnt offered any DB we have committed or that we are presently in serious consideration for. Guess we should drop the whole DB class then.

Josh Jobe?

Artie Burns was offered by them. Point is, anybody Bama offers, we offer IMMEDIATELY

I'm confused here... what does artie burns & Jobe have to do with this recruiting class? Obviously we've got people they went after at some point but none of that has to do with the 2017 roster.

Offers be damned. This kid has that it factor. He's got heart & he's worth a flyer. Especially being as we have a depth problem. I pray we can get him back in the fold. Hope we didn't burn that bridge.

Same here. If he can play in this system effectively then who cares how many offers or stars he has ? We need football players with a high dog factor, not divas.

Chise just making a point tho.....big time programs with great evaluators of talent r not interested but people on here know more i guess.

Actually most big time programs don't offer kids that are 3 stars or under unless they are local. They mainly go after 4 or 5 stars.talent be damned.

I think he is a take especially if we do not get Henderson back. He would have to be an upgrade over the guys who have been here that can't start over freshman Young. I guess there is little to no chance?

Hes 5'11..hes 185lbs..he ran a 4.5 at every camp he went too..he strong as **** for his size from all reports from Shap Pops...he has 6 interceptions this season and 3 returned for TDs...Again..if this kid played for Carol City, Booker T, St Thomas, or Miami Central and we didnt offer him this board would be calling for Mike Rumphs head. He is 5'9 170. Already got bandy who is 5'9 and young will likelly start and is 5'9. You want a team full of 5'9 corners?

I'd rather have a roster full of 5'9" napoleon complex corners than 6'2" guys who have been here for several years getting beat out by 5'9" freshman "midgets".

BOOM!

That guy must not be watching our games with a post like that. Ryan Mayes? 6'1 and as of today is a JAG... Michael Jackson? 6'1 and cant even fight Malik Young off who is stealing his reps...who by the way is 5'9!!...Sheldrick Redwine? 6'1 and people are saying he needs to move to Safety....

Turns our that tall and good aren't mutually exclusive.

I doubt Saban is doing his recruiting off Rivals or 247's rankings. If he thought Roberts was some great talent he'd offer him regardless of his star level on recruiting sites.

Yea but we knew those guys sucked whe they were recruits coming here..... Everyone with a clue knew they were buns sauce......guys like carlton Davis were the real deal while we were getting guys who should not be playing here.

is Roberts commited somewhere? Or undecided still

He must be committed to a Top 5 program with all this buzz on here about him being a can't miss guy.

U would think hes a fivestar on here......hes been to multiple camps hes been evaluated....hes not some hidden gem

Yeah because there are no hidden gems anymore in HS especially in the state of Fla... Khalil Mack says "Hi".. among many many many many many more recruits out there that get evaluated wrong or never are even seen.

I like CB's that can play. Size should be secondary. I remember missing on some kids due to size during the Shannon era and it cost us. Players make plays. We need that desperately.

Go Canes!

Hes making plays in high school.....the coaches did there evals and they translated his skill at this level andthey said no. This isnt like hollaman who had like 11 picks n was local......what is it people dont understand that thestaff wants bigger fish.....bigger fish means better players n better players mean a winning program. This is that al golden **** n behavior where they dont have to recruitsomeone jartd cause they know they havehim lazy bs. Bring me studs give me the josh jobes of the world

Jobe 2018 guy. Not sure what he has to do with this class. We need CB's that can play in this class. Roberts can play, he's no clown. Mr. Quarterman knows what a football player looks like. He has experience in that department. I'll take his word for it.

Go Canes!

You give him too much credit then. Go take a look at their offers. Any that aren't 4 or 5 stars are local. It's not a debate. It's public record.

That is just a coincidence. Saban knows who the majority of great players are in his own state.

When was Khalil Mack recruited? You act like Buffalo just signed him last year. Things have changed dramatically with recruiting even since Mack was recruited.

Did Mack go to a million camps like Roberts has? I doubt it. Everyone knows who Roberts is at this point. Yet his offer list is pedestrian.

Maybe he'll beat the odds and turn out to be a great player. It's not an exact science. But all indications are that he's a mid-level C-USA type recruit.

So because he's recruiting the cream of the crop every year you assume that means he's recruiting off the website rankings?

Chicken and egg, good friend. He's recruiting the best players, and, most of the time, the best players are rated the highest. A lot of times, the sites are rating the players based on who is recruiting.

If you want to get back to that level, then we need to get the kinds of players Saban is targeting and signing, not the kind of players USF is signing. Occasionally, yeah, grab a lower rated guy that you think is great. But Rick doesn't think Roberts is a great prospect, or he wouldn't have cut him loose.

So it's not a question of Rick doing an independent evaluation and offering a lower rated guy who thinks can really play. He actually cut loose this lower-rated guy because he doesn't think highly of him as a player.

Seems like all the other marquee programs in the country agree with his evaluation of Roberts. Right now, the only programs that agree with UM fans on Roberts are C-USA type programs.

I think you're misunderstanding me on several points. No I certainly don't think he's recruiting off of websites. He recruits based upon prototypical studs though. Rankings usually occurs based upon exposure to those websites scouts. However that's clearly not one in the same. Lastly my point with Nick isn't at all I think we're confused & he's a monster. It's at this point we really aren't recruiting many more HIGH level kids at cb for this class. We need corners for next year. If our options are limited & were reaching out to very average options than I'd prefer we go back to Nick. I feel if it's a kid who were not sold on it should be him. His camp performances & his tape plays out well. By the way the only thing coaches aren't sold on with him is height & speed. I think his speed is acceptable & his height is what it is. He has good hips & he has proven that he has good football iq. That has to matter. I'd take him over Edward's or brini.that's just me.

YouKnowWhat say he got that dog in him and he a take. He has watched him grind and knows him. That's all I need to know.

Coaches disagree so that's that.

I don't think you understand. UKnowWhat doesn't sign off on scholarships. The staff at this time doesn't like the kid. Give it up !!

I wasn't arguing that those guys were great, I was arguing that the goal is big AND talented. I get that we've missed some smaller guys while taking big guys who turned out average. Point is, if the staff is doing their job the big guys will turn out to have talent, whereas a little guy will never be big. Everyone is into metrics these days...guys have to have the measurables if they want to be taken seriously.

No lie, I think the focus on size is way overdone. I see the point in a big receiver, but give me the little guy who refuses to lose over the big guy without heart every time.

And while you're talking about disappointments, I'd just say that Sam Bruce.

Three pages and I basically said "YES" before opening it thinking he was back in the mix. Bummer.

As for what Nick is, in his one on one videos, he looks more fluid with better hips than Bandy. He's producing better numbers in games. Bandy is local and to keep the local schools happy, even if IMO rated a bit lower, you take the local guy for future recruits they may have.

Either way, watch....he'll be in the NFL one day.
