Regardless of what you think of the job he's done, he gets a TON of credit from me for pulling up those over sized knickers of his and sticking this thing out.

He would have been well within his right to take any of those other jobs that came calling, thus leaving this program in a heap of doodoo.

Golden said when the Shiit hit the fan, the 2nd question he got at the press conference was, "coach, do you think you will be able to field a team next year?"

People downplay the negative impact because you haters are always going to hate, but anybody who looks at our last 3 years rationally, has to be amazed at a number of things.

1. That Golden even stayed. Anyone else would have left, and who would we have gotten? With a death penalty looming and a lower third salary being offered, who in their right mind would have taken the job?.

2. We should be awed by the recruiting classes Golden has pulled in. The haters spew vitriol constantly, but getting top 20 classes with a sword at your throat is almost impossible to do. Instead we've gotten 4 and 5 star recruits.
Yes we didn't land any "elite" DT's, until this year when we got 4 good to very good ones, but I think not being able to slush money like every other top program for top DT's has played a major role.

All in all, this staff has done an incredible job in the worst possible environment.

I know I'm in the minority by praising our staff, but I've been a Cane for more than 3 decades.
We've always been the minority.

Cool story. Why don't you explain to me how The Cloud accounts for he and his staff getting out-schemed by any team with a pulse? I suppose The Cloud made him choke away the Coastal not once, but twice?

Also, where would Golden have realistically went had he ridden out of Miami before he even did anything at Miami?

The Cloud is very powerful, my friend. It is responsible for 9/11, the Japanese Tsunami and the Boston Marathon Bombing as well as the things you just mentioned.

Fear the Cloud.

recruiting is distinct from games... the cloud has nothing to do with the latter as opposed to the former

the cloud... computing is the future!

This is fair, but given the team's lack of improvement over three years, I'm not convinced that Golden leaving would have been a death knell for the program. We wouldn't have been able to lure in a top tier candidate had Golden left and we were without a head coach under the circumstances, but Al hasn't exactly performed on Saturdays. Who's to say even low-tier replacement wouldn't have performed just as well with the talent and strength of schedule? It hasn't exactly been a gauntlet and we've lost to plenty of teams with less talent. That is on coaching.

LULZ. This is the University of Miami. Situated in the most talent-rich, concentrated recruiting ground in all of the nation. Cloud and all, a top 20 class is nothing to marvel at. And while I concede he's done a nice job on the recruiting front, too much talent has left, particularly over the last two years, and at key positions. Our defense is going to be shredded again next year thanks to the staff butchering the recruitment of defensive tackles over a three year span.

That is something to be aghast at, not awe at.

All in all, this staff has done an incredible job in the worst possible environment.

If giving up 500 yards per game on a seemingly regular basis is your rationale for an incredible job, then bravo Al.
