New Raising Canes

I care about Cane football and not coach's waistline.

Al has not been perfect.

Nonetheless, that was a serious sh*t storm back in 2011. I was on campus and that question of "...will there be a team next year" was considered valid at the time.

Al and staff did some good things in that time frame to try and save this program. The one that I like to say I am a fan of. I hope the product gets better on the field but he did earn my gratitude for these past efforts.

Also, his comments on Tracy and Duke are spot on. He knows what's up.

You guys should want him to succeed because that means the team is succeeding.

Why did our recruiting class fall apart after the cloud dissipated?

It didn't. We got all our commits done early and held on to most of them. Maybe the staff should have held back some commitments and released it on the week before signing day to appease all the soap-opera...er recruting gurus out there.

We lost 5 kids, and the number 1 kid in the class.

But then what are the writhing masses to do? No more funny little gifs. No more flying off the handle over a high school kid. No more fat boy jokes. All the great in-depth critical thinking that the internet Miami fans are known for will all go out the window then.

The only real loss was Valentine.

lol.. Powell and Gibbons are big losses, don't be fool. And Valentine was a HUGE loss!

Powell left bc our admissions wouldn't clear him. That's not on AG. Gibbons went to Stanford to be a lawyer. Not even mad. Valentine wasn't taking a 2nd foreign language. That ship sailed many months ago. We pushed out Bethel & Turner. Lol @ acting like we lost them.

Two things I noticed.... On signing day our war room looks almost empty. Sec schools and some others the room looks packed. And our team looks so small / out if shape especially with pads off in the edge room.

"Can you say with any certainty that the university will have a football team next year?"

LOL. Wonder if that douchebag reporter still has a job.

That's the thing, you have to remember context. ESPN had a scroll talking about hooker and yachts. The topic of the time was should Miami get the death penalty. Things were looking bleak, even cloudy would be fair to say.

According to many on this board, the cloud wasn't real. It was a fabrication in order to excuse recruiting failures.

They may have survived the NCAA "cloud", but will they survive the D'Onofrio/Golden cloud?

Regardless of what you think of the job he's done, he gets a TON of credit from me for pulling up those over sized knickers of his and sticking this thing out.

He would have been well within his right to take any of those other jobs that came calling, thus leaving this program in a heap of doodoo.

I am now of the opinion Al Golden's agent made most of those rumors up about other jobs.

In other words Miami is no longer interested in winning football games.

I'm not gonna pretend it had no effect on recruiting. That'd be ridiculous. We probably lost a few recruits each year because of it. The higher rated guys like Stefon Diggs, Keith Bryant, Matthew Thomas and probably several others.

But more than anything our on the field performance affected our recruiting than negative recruiting did, especially this past year. Rival coaches went from talking about the Death Penalty to 500 yards a game on defense, and losses to VT, Duke, FSU and Louisville.

Our coaches need to get their collective **** together because SoFla is loaded with talent and 8 wins isn't gonna cut it. Other coaches are ruthless and will gut soft Al and his band of merry men if we give them an opening by playing poorly.

Wow, after watching that and seeing the cloud and all the media bashing Miami during the majority of the investigation, it reminded me of a story Robinson broke last September.

It was regarding Alabama players getting impermissible benefits. The same EXACT allegations with receipts, phone records, blah, blah, blah have gone basically ignored by the media and NCAA.

Move along, S$C, nothing to worry about.

It's sad that our guys were getting fileted and this gets brushed under the rug.
