I was assisting a high school coach. I noticed one kid (a running back) kept mumbling about how he was better and wanted in the game. I asked the head coach about the kid and he said he never got anything right in practice and until he did he's benched. I convinced him to give the kid a shot. He put him in and he returned the KO for a TD. I convinced him to stick the kid in on offense, reluctantly he finally did, the blocking was bad, the kid reversed the field and ran for a TD. He now had a starting RB that was a winner. I've seen lots of kids that shine in practice but their lights go out when the lights come on. Others need the adrenalin rush of the spotlight to perform. Cam was ignored out of high school, got lucky with a coach that moved up and took Cam with him, we lucked into getting a potential Heisman QB that probably sucked in practice. I wish our coaches would look at GAME film for every defensive player we have and give the GAMERS a shot at playing instead of riding the same tired horses over and over. Even one or two series would show them if they have a stud or not, but solely looking at practice isn't enough. We know from recuiting we have 4 and 5 star players, so evaluate GAME film and play them.
Hmmm...Joe Salave’a is in his first season as a member of the Miami Hurricanes Football coaching staff, where he serves as defensive line coach, associate head coach (defense) and defensive run game coordinator. Seems that comments indicate we were better last year? And Taylor has no experience as coach!
We have 22 Defensive Linemen on the roster plus Malik Bryant.
