Moving on from Guidry

Guidry isn’t being fired this season and will be the DC next season. Like it or not he will get an opportunity to coach better players next season, particularly in the back 7. If we don’t see improvement after a greater recrutiing/NIL focus on defense next season then I think you will see a change. But until them mario is going to give Guidry a shot and will have a better lineup for Guidry.

Dawson didn’t become a better OC from last year to this year, he just has better personnel. Guidry will get that opportunity next year from Mario.

Wait, I thought the only thing keeping him from a promotion was some pesky DWI’s since way before a drunk Sarkisian was patrolling the USC sidelines??

There’s a 0% chance he gets fired during the season.

There’s a 10% chance he gets fired after the season.

Messidor was never in the 260s. He has been in the 270-280 range the last 3 years. He is 280 now. Bain hasn’t been 265 since the off-season of his freshmen year. They both are tweeners and have always been. I agree messidor is at his best at DE and then kick inside at times to rush the qb
And this is what I’m saying, we need more DE then can provide a mix of power and explosiveness, if you think Mesidor is better at DE why have him play at 280? Might as well get him to 265-270, watch how much quicker he gets and he will still be powerful. Do you know how many DEs that r in the NFL that are around 6’3-6’4 anywhere between 260-270? If that’s gonna be his position he don’t need to be 280lb.

Lol we're 9-1, lost 1 game by 5 points, and control our own destiny. You think our DC who got a raise and extension last year is getting fired during a bye week? Cmon, close thread
Lol right. And I will continue say, we have the worst fanbase man. This thread is definitely top 3 worst thread of the year so far.

It’s crazy. It’s almost like LG is telling Kiko to slide right by the guy who he is supposed to be tackling but instead it goes for a big play.

I for one am looking forward to next year after MC goes heavy on defense in the portal. We need help on all 3 levels of the defense this offseason.

Lol and I'm not even saying we should or shouldn't keep Guidry for next season. But firing him now..... after losing our first game 10 weeks in.... before a bye with 2 games left..... yeah that's crazy lol

In conference games, Miami ranks 14th out of 17 teams in scoring defense (31.7 ppg allowed), 13th in sacks (11), and 14th in red zone defense. If the defense had even been average during conference play, Miami is probably still undefeated with way more comfortable victories.

Matter of fact, you tell me what this defense consistently does well right now?
Nothing they don't have a guy on the interior other than Barrow that is really a interior lineman. They don't have anyone better than oj Fred in the secondary. They thought they could get by with defensive ends being able to rush the passer at an elite rate but it hasn't not worked. Credit the opposition for getting the ball out quickly but this is on Mario. But I can't really complain because this team has better record than it has in several years and as we get better players we will be in a better position to be consistent.

I don’t need to be an x and o savant to know that the defense looks confused all game, blow coverages, get out of position, tackle poorly, lack fundamentals… it’s coaching. What their excuse, ALL the players we recruited are completely retarded?
It’s hilarious to me sitting in corner of the end zone yesterday and pre-snap you have safeties, corners, and linebackers yelling at each other trying to line up. GT had 3 WRs in a triangle on one side and only 2 defenders and them standing there yelling at each other. Then they score and they’re cussing each other and saying I told you so. Someone doesn’t have trust out there in who is supposed to make calls and 3-4 guys not seeing the same thing.

They don’t have a clue what they’re doing or what they’re supposed to do.

You think the last few weeks was bad? Just wait until SMU does all these same things and adds some pace to it. With a running QB that can throw it as well. I’ll put $500 on SMU to eclipse 600 yards and 50 points in Charlotte right now. It will be a blood bath. At best, the offense keeps us in it and it’s 52-48 type of game.

Even the regular formations give our guys fits. I recall a big third down play where they dropped the ball on the first half.

It was trips left and we had 4 (?) defenders zoning it. We kept awful assignments and the guy did a simple out route and was WIDE open. Just basic fundamental lack of understanding of assignments. Either we have really dumb kids or the coaches just aren’t getting through to them.

You don’t see a lot of benching bc there’s nobody else to turn to.

Obb broke down this play in the student of the game podcast.
