Miami is firing DC Lance Guidry

Well….you can’t have a unit that cannot stop a nosebleed with a comforter - I thought he’d have another year but it can’t say that I’m unhappy with the news either.

Mario has to nail this hire because we badly need complementary football in 2025 - highly unlikely another Cam Ward walks in the door at QB.

Down & distance usually dictates tendencies.

If it's 2nd & 9 and the offense is 80% pass in those situations, that might give Guidry a reason to call a stunt/blitz.

HOWEVER...

The OC's watch film and chart tendencies too. If they notice that you like to stunt a lot on 2 & long situations, they're going to forego their usual tendency and they're going to run the ball and catch you without gap integrity.
Appreciate that. Never adapting seems insane to me based on our lack of success

I really don’t get people complaining about Mario going on his 3rd DC? Kevin Steele was mostly seen like a solid hire, experienced DC with plenty of SEC experience. Steele was hired by Saban just after and are we assuming he doesn’t know defense? Then Mario hires Guidry, in year 1 he looks really promising, well year 2 he loses 3 NFL DB’s in J Williams, Kinchens and Jaden Davis. Shows his hand that he can’t adjust or out-scheme anyone. So Mario fires him? Yall would rather him not get fired so then you wouldn’t be able to say ‘3 DC’s in 3 years’?
This is CIS, not much makes sense around here, pure emotion most of the time logic be damned

Mario is persona non grata around here of late, but let's not label him a buffoon either. He doesn't mess around. He's not going to take a risk with this hire.

if he doesnt fix this program it's a wrap. he's probably our last hope. this is coming from someone who wasnt on board with his hire.
This is only true because the people who have power seem to only want to invest because of their relationship with mario and not because they want miami football to be great

Is this dude deadass? Lmao

I might somewhat agree with this

Guidry was getting out coached badly but the season was basically cooked when the staff decided they didn’t need to attack the portal harder for dbs.

They decided to patch it up by moving guys around

And who has guidry landed in hs? Most of our dbs are kids who would probably come here no matter who the dc was

Hate to admit it but the next DC needs to be an up and comer who will be allowed to bring some of his own position coaches. Someone who isn’t lazy recruiting. Someone that the analytics support the fact that they have strong defenses.
I just hope the DC search doesn’t take forever but that’s what Mario does. Turns a coaching search into a 2-3 month process.

Cristobal did what obviously needed to be done.
Wasted no time and sent a clear message to the entire team.
For the love of God let the next hire be the one to lead us to the promised land.
Actually he did waste time because he let “wins” excuse sh*t Guidry was doing 5-6 weeks ago. Guidry had VT and Cal to get his head out of his ***. After Louisville Mario should’ve seen the writing on the wall for us to be able to make any kind of run in the playoffs. Guidry’s inability to adjust quickly against GT should’ve been the last straw.

I really can’t celebrate firing two defensive coordinators in 3 seasons

Should end well

In the course of human endeavors, the common truism states: "The third time is the charm." Except here.

Another is: "Every selection of one among a choice of two has in ingrained 50/50% chance of success or failure. "

I'll say this - so far we're on a 20+ year roll!

Get a good defense - can't have an offense. Have a good offense - well, you know.

Can't chew gum and scratch our *** at the same time.

Guidry was a poor recruiter and this may have contributed to his demise. If I remember correctly, Mario had a press conference a few weeks ago or late in this season where he emphasized “if you don’t recruit, you’re not much use to the program.” Maybe that was a shot at Guidry, maybe not. Defensive back recruiting has not been going well other than OJ.

The defensive performance throughout the season was his downfall. Every level of the defense regressed.

This. You have to identify and recruit players that fit your system. He didn't

This guy is a clown.
It’s like a woman saying “ I divorced my husband because he pees on the toilet seat and leaves empty bottles of OJ in the fridge”. She didn’t leave him because he banged his secretary ,their neighbor and her sister.

He was fired because the defense was atrocious and HE’S THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!! Yes his recruiting was meh but if we had a top ten defense this year he’s the current DC.

FREE AT LAST
Until Mario proves he can hire a defensive staff worth a ****, I’m not going to assume anything.

I know some respected voices here might disagree, but it’s clear that whatever Mario is doing on that side of the ball isn’t working. We’re on the verge of hiring our 3rd defensive coordinator in four years, and yet again, it seems the majority of the position staff will be replaced. Our defensive recruiting has been underwhelming, and the lack of player development is becoming increasingly concerning. How Dennis is still here is beyond concerning and no one can tell Mario anything about him.
