Miami declines opening 2014 vs. LSU in Houston

Poorly done from a PR standpoint. You don't outright say "no." You counteroffer with something in our favor and put them in position to balk. Then "both teams couldn't work out a mutually agreeable deal," as opposed to "Miami declines."

Always a step behind.

I totally agree after reading you post. We could have counter offered a neutral game in Tampa with a home and home series starts in Miami first. LSU would have likely turned it down and Miami would have saved face. Tampa still would have been an major fan advantage because LSU fan travel well.

Who is gonna really care? Does anyone talk about Florida backing out of playing us for god knows how long besides Miami fans? I'd rather them just say no than waste their time with counteroffers that they actually don't want LSU to accept.

Living in Houston, this wasn't LSU bringing this to the table btw. The people who run Reliant Stadium in Houston have started their own kickoff classic. They'll have one this year. LSU is a natural choice. They wanted Miami because of the name. Miami said no to Reliant Stadium not LSU. So there would have been no negotiation of a game in Tampa unless Raymond James Stadium wanted to start their own kickoff classic.

I rarely bet fresh qb's on the road unless I'm getting a lot of points. Home cooking is worth much more if a freshman is starting. Once a freshman QB gets rattled on the road it's over. There is just not enough info to make a call like that. I guess our freshman QB could turn out like TAM QB, but the odds are stacked against it. As we saw this year rankings are not always dependable. Half way though the season I told my friends at the Casino, ND is over rated. As the season went on they got more over rated ending at #2. There were at least 3-4 other teams in the SEC that would probably have beaten ND last year. The rankings are usually way off for many of the top 25 teams. I don't even look at rankings when I'm trying to find winners. Rankings are more of a fun thing for fans most of the time.

I hear u. We competed with Florida with a redshirt and true freshman at QB and could've won that game if we had anything close to an offensive coordinator. Florida was an "elite" team and defense at the time. Our offense will be light years ahead of the Offense we had that year. If we finish ranked higher than LSU at the end of this season would anyone feel differently? And what team would u bet on with both having new freshman or first year starting QBs fastcane if that game hypothetically happened?

Eh. Is PR really an issue (as it relates to this matter) that we are concerned about right now?

We don't want to play them on that day at that location. End of story. No need to make an excuse as to why.

On one hand good, cause **** them for 2005.

On the second hand hand , I'm disappointed cause **** them for 2005.

How bout 2015 in NYC?

SEC teams spend months finding a **** opponent who they know they can beat. Since they seem to fancy themselves a dominant program, let them face us at strength in a pro Canes town.

This is BS. You play to win championships. This is how:
1) A "big game" against a major conference contender - (top 20 ranked team).... WIN
2) 3 cream puffs OOC games, preferably all D1 and no subdivision teams... WIN
3) WIN every conference game.
4) CRUSH someone in national title game.

None of this 3/4 OOC games against ranked teams BS. No one does that ****.

That's the UF (SEC) strategy that gets hated on by most FSU/Miami fans. Reality is that it works. Although by 2014 you will probably need to play two good out of conference teams to make sure you qualify for the 4 team playoff. Due to perception an SEC team would not have to and could stick to the same formula. I wouldn't bet on it if I was an ACC team though.

With the new play off set up, it as usual just does not make sense to play that tough of a game that early in a season. Heck as an ACC team if you lose that your basically going to be done for the yr, where as LSU could win out and would easily make the four team playoff. I like the way we are currently scheduling, this yrs schedule is the first one I have seen in a while where I actually like how it all plays out for us. We have had crap for yrs now! I am definintly on the side of we will play anyone anywhere once we get back on top. Right now we are still building this broken program. This is not the 80's 90's or anythin even close to those teams. Let alone the fact that we have so **** much $EC money to compete against down here for recruits, and then lose a game to one of those losers early in a season. The risk/reward is just not there.

Not smart. The Miami program I loved played anyone and anywhere at anytime. We are looking for respect and opportunities like this are what gain respect on the national scene.

With the way the CFB landscape is today, I think its stupid to play a crazy tough schedule. Unless you play in the SEC, one loss and your NC hopes are done. SEC is playing with house money.

And now you see FSU trying to emulate it. Their schedule last year was made for a title run but they choked it away against NC State and then got hammered by UF.

Wow have the times changed. Thats all I gotta say. And im not talkin about the Canes either. Im talkin about some of you fans. Let ANY prgm (Esp Florida) try to duck us and we call them the biggest cowards in football! Wheres all the talk about how schools have been "duckin us for years" and how "we play anyone, anytime, anywhere"? Yes I get it. This isnt 1987 but I will be damned if this is 1997!

The game will be played next year when Duke will be in the Heisman race probably. Guys like Chick, Perryman and Pierre will be seniors spearheading the D. The offense will virtually run itself and dont give me the SM is gone crap either. With the weapons we will have available the transition wont be as hard as some of you think.

After this I dont wanna hear anymore BS from any fan who agrees with this about teams refusing to play us again. I wont call this a bytch move by the admin but this does come across a little scary on our part. And LMAO @ some of you actually AFRAID TO PLAY LSU but come on here talkin about how we BETTER compete for the ACC and be in a BCS bowl by next year OR ELSE. LMAO. So who the ***** you think we gonna be playin if we make it to the BCS?? FAMU? Florida Gulf Coast? Smh..I am very tempted to fade to black on this thread..I really hope no LSU fans wonder over here and see some of the coward BS being typed on here.

When this fanbase rids itself of chest thumping "we da U baby!" morons like this poster the sooner we can get back to going to post season games, pocketing wads of bowl cash and getting recruits. This fanbase, as well as too many of its recruits have been big on flashing their nutsacks with little or no brain power to execute any type of plan or process.

Adults are finally in charge. Accept that times have changed, that it ain't the 80's*no more and that it's all about getting into the post season bowl picture. This game would do NOTHING to help us get there.

Gimme a home and home series or GTFO.

Keep in mind we're already scheduled to play 9/20 @Nebraska in 2014. Scheduling 2 big time Out of Conference road games that early in the season....I don't think there's any team that would do that.

LSU's scheduled out of conference teams in 2014 - Georgia Southern, Louisiana Monroe, and New Mexico St. They're still looking for their "big" OOC game.

If Nebraska weren't already on the schedule this would be a great game to take. But it's more about smart scheduling than being "scared".

Yo Dandycane, watch ur mouth playa. I been following the U just as long as you have if not longer so if you dont like my post then just ignore it or come with an objective answer. I been a season ticket holder for 30 years. I can say what the ***** I want you bum. If your opinion is for us to duck and hide until we "are back" then go crawl back in your hole, get your post count as high as you can while us REAL cane fans go to the games, put our money where our mouth is, and support the team. You got alot of nerve especially for a **** with David Stern in his sig. You must not really be from Miami doin that ****.

Who is to say that we didn't counter but the media just decided to run with the "Miami Declines" headline. It wouldn't be the first time we were cast in an unfavorable light.
