Miami declines opening 2014 vs. LSU in Houston

Low risk, high reward. Would've loved to see it.

I agree, plus we talk about unseating the SEC on here all the time, well here is another opportunity and we pass. Im not really mad about it, and understand the reasoning, but its comical when so many on this site talk about beating the SEC and when we pass on it they agree...

But you schedule playing with a program that protects child molesters?

To be the best you have to beat the best. This is some ***** isht. The inferiority complex is sickening!

if you can't discern the difference between the two scenarios, then you really should follow another sport.

I follow this sport regardless of either "scenario." So tell me, genius, what is the difference between a pr nightmare and the chance to be on the national stage and defeat an almighty $ec team? If you're scared, then you should really go to church.

Those road games are also about money. Most teams lose money even when they go to bowl games. Tough for small private schools to suck in the cost of the guaranteed ticket allotment, overpriced hotel rates and travel for a game without even a bowl payout.

We could be on probation and down schollies by the time that game comes for all we know. This is smart.

We will get back to the "anybody, anywhere" mantra eventually. But doing it while you're a rebuilding program and potentially heading into sanctions as well is just stupid.

Incredibly low risk, unless it somehow effects our home games. Not only an OOC game but also so early in the season where a loss doesn't kill your season, plus an upset is more likely. I am not convinced it would be an upset though. We are going to have a **** of a roster if certain guys stick around.

If Miami does something big this upcoming season I maybe wouldn't of minded playing LSU at the Georgia Dome.

### UM declined overtures to open the 2014 season against LSU at Houston’s Reliant Stadium – smart, considering it will be the first game for Stephen Morris’ successor at quarterback. UM doesn’t need him opening against a usually-stout LSU defense.

They forgot to mention Houston is a 4 hour drive from Baton Rouge, so that would be an LSU home game.

If the game could've been played in Atlanta then I would be all for it.... wassup w/ the schedule makers trying to put Miami behind the 8 ball all the time???

I'm a college football gambler, the first thing I look for is a freshman QB starting to bet against, many times it's a gimme game. There would be no payback believe me, it's just to soon to schedule a game like that. Let's see, freshman QB, check, on the road Check, against the second best program in the country check, first start ever, check. I'll bet that game every time. Golden is way the **** to smart to schedule that one.

Yea I think we could have still taken this game. Our defense should be pretty **** good by 2014 as well and LSU would most likely be breaking in a brand new inexperienced QB themselves after Mettenberger leaves. We need payback from that 05 Peach Bowl beatdown we suffered at the hands of an eventually overrated back up in Matt Flynn. I would have liked to see this game scheduled especially with the type of momentum we envision we'll have after a really good season with this current group....we would be just as big of a hot topic heading into the opening games as any team in the nation. Might have missed a big opportunity right here. Either way, all we need to do is win win win!!!!

Everyone except Miami fans hate us. lol I can tell you, if we win 10 games we won't be playing N Illinois in a bowl game. They will pair us up with some they think can beat us to a pulp. They probably would have given us the # 3 team last year to play, only because Bama was locked in with the #2 team. Canes against the rest, it's been that way for a long time.

If we didnt already play Nebraska and if the game were in Atlanta, I'd be cool with it. But no way given our scenario. We havent had a first round draft pick in 5 years. We havent won a conference title since leaving the Big East. We havent played in a BCS game in forever. LSU has done all those things and more in the past 5 years. And they recruit like a mother effer.

Go 13-0 and we will get our chance to beat the best in the SEC. Good enough for me, let's get that first SEC win under our belts this year, baby steps, lol.

I hear u. We competed with Florida with a redshirt and true freshman at QB and could've won that game if we had anything close to an offensive coordinator. Florida was an "elite" team and defense at the time. Our offense will be light years ahead of the Offense we had that year. If we finish ranked higher than LSU at the end of this season would anyone feel differently? And what team would u bet on with both having new freshman or first year starting QBs fastcane if that game hypothetically happened?

I hate LSU almost as much as FSU or UF. Remember the last time we played LSU? I think it was in the 2003 Gator. They were killing us and they go for a fake punt in the fourth quarter. I hate Miles ever since. I remember Highsmith, Alanzo`s nephew, threw up the sign saying " I would hate to be U". I would love to kick their *** all over the stadium. I want to wait until were good enough to do it. Their was also a major fight in the tunnel after the game. I WANT MY POUND OF FLESH.

I hate them just as much as you, I live and grew up in Louisiana. I've always been a Cane fan and it's been very hard to shut up there arrogant lsu fans. They should have played us this year so we could dragged them up and down the field. They loss everyone to the draft. We would have beat them in this years opener. lsu knows that we have a good QB this year and will have a young QB next year.

Rudebuddha gets it. You have to consider the economic of this move. Back when LSU played Oregon in Reliant Stadium - ESPN was the promoter and gave LSU 3.6 Million to play in that game and Oregon only 1.6 Million due to LSU being the other school geographically. Both OU AD Rob Mullens and Chip Kelly were ****ed because the prior AD was a moron and entered into that agreement. The game ended up being a loser for Oregon as they lost money, whereas if they were guaranteed either more $ for it or had a home game they would have had more $ for the football program. Going fwd Oregon will only play in a Neutral game if they are guaranteed a minimum of 3 million.

So here we dont know the economics of the offer. They could have been trying to low ball ***** us for all we know. I am sure Blake James has our best interests at heart.

Poorly done from a PR standpoint. You don't outright say "no." You counteroffer with something in our favor and put them in position to balk. Then "both teams couldn't work out a mutually agreeable deal," as opposed to "Miami declines."

Always a step behind.
