Miami declines opening 2014 vs. LSU in Houston

No reason to give LSU a free home game against our new QB (whoever it is). Golden has mentioned that the 'anytime, anywhere' philosophy only makes sense when you atop your conference and have a seasoned team.

ND got a free home game out of us. This shouldn't happen ever again.

correct. also we played at KSU and got embarrassed. howd that look for us?

Yea I think we could have still taken this game. Our defense should be pretty **** good by 2014 as well and LSU would most likely be breaking in a brand new inexperienced QB themselves after Mettenberger leaves. We need payback from that 05 Peach Bowl beatdown we suffered at the hands of an eventually overrated back up in Matt Flynn. I would have liked to see this game scheduled especially with the type of momentum we envision we'll have after a really good season with this current group....we would be just as big of a hot topic heading into the opening games as any team in the nation. Might have missed a big opportunity right here. Either way, all we need to do is win win win!!!!

Kirby would've taken that prob. Just like hat neutral matchup vs ND in Chicago

wasnt even neutral lol. the entire stadium was decorated for ND including ND school advertisements on the big screens. it was a shamrock series game. biggest joke of neutral site i ever heard. was thoroughly annoyed when i walked into the stadium and saw ND painted end zones

the problem is we dont need to potentially ruin olsens confidence in his first game (most likely starting in 14). our D may be good but considering we dont have the reload factor on that side of the ball yet and LSU does, it doesnt matter who trot out as qb, their D could carry em throughout liek they always do

For those that consistently put up this crap any time, any place need to go look at the schedule we had back in the day...ijs. Thank you Blake for doing what's right!

I would love to play a home and home with LSU. It may be Olsen's first game but we are going to be a strong team around him.

However I ******* hate these "neutral" field bull**** games. Wonder if it was going to count as a home game for us? Not sure how that works but no thanks.

As much as I want that game, it's a safer play to decline for now. We need to build before we attack games like that. As much as I love the any team any time mentality, it's just not smart, not yet. For those that crave the national games like playing LSU right now, there's no telling who we play if this season goes like it could/should. Maybe we get LSU sooner than 2014 season...

Because it was never designed or intended to be a neutral game to begin with. That was just something many on this board convinced themselves because it was in CHI. Like you said it was a Shamrock Series game, they have one lined this year also, I believe it is in Texas. That game will be once again packed to the brim with Irish fans.

This is BS. You play to win championships. This is how:
1) A "big game" against a major conference contender - (top 20 ranked team).... WIN
2) 3 cream puffs OOC games, preferably all D1 and no subdivision teams... WIN
3) WIN every conference game.
4) CRUSH someone in national title game.

None of this 3/4 OOC games against ranked teams BS. No one does that ****.

I hate LSU almost as much as FSU or UF. Remember the last time we played LSU? I think it was in the 2003 Gator. They were killing us and they go for a fake punt in the fourth quarter. I hate Miles ever since. I remember Highsmith, Alanzo`s nephew, threw up the sign saying " I would hate to be U". I would love to kick their *** all over the stadium. I want to wait until were good enough to do it. Their was also a major fight in the tunnel after the game. I WANT MY POUND OF FLESH.

Lets see... 2.5 hour ride by plane to Houston or 4 hour drive from Baton Rouge whom does this favor more??? Exactly no more of these "neutral site" games.... Id be glad to schedule a home and home with them though

We already play at Nebraska in 2014, so your theory doesn't work

To me, this game was when the decline of the program became evident.

We already play at Neb in 2014. Doesn't seem to make much sense to break in a new qb with Sept games at Neb and then basically a road game against LSU.

I think this is key. A lot of people are just looking at the game as a singularity w/o looking at the rest of the schedule. We already play AT Nebraska in September of that month. Yes, it would be good to get back to the play anyone anywhere mentality, but 1) people don't do that anymore 2) we aren't back to that yet and trying to force that early has more downside than good and 3) w/ our attendance issues, we should do home and homes with the big draws.
