Mel Tucker is a Corch [Suspended after investigation...now fired]

Can anyone really say Tucker is a corch when he won 11 games and a NY6 bowl at a non traditional power?

We should be laughing at Penn State for giving James Franklin all the money and going 7-5 and then hiring Manny Diaz.
James Franklin is terrible. Penn state are going to hate having to try and get out from under that contract. I think that is one of the worst deals ever…like ever

Thats what happens when you have a woman at AD.

Tucker and Mich St had a great year. Championship level year (record wise) without the championship.

This will most likely be the best record they attain under tucker ever.

Franklin gets extensions every year , his agent leaks to programs he’s interested in opening then sits back and waits lol.
When is an AD going to realise he is not actually good at coaching the football.

His game day management is up there with the worst of them. The amount of times throughout the year the camera pans to him in the 4th qtr and he looks totally confused is astronomical for someone getting paid what he is.

Dude, he's a good coach if they went 7-5. I'm not equating his salary to his his coaching ability. Your worth what the market is willing to pay.

All college coaches are overpaid. It use to be a sub $500k job. Why is is all of the sudden a problem because Tucker got paid. There's a bunch of mediocre and bad coaches that have made a lot of money.

The funny thing is you guys are judging Tucker like you have a vested Interest. Now that he got paid, your expectations have changed. They shouldn't.

As I said, if MSU overpaid (and they have) , it's their business and problem.

Funny how I don't hear anything about Sarkisian being overpaid for that clown show he has down there in Austin.

The fact is all coaches are overpaid for what amounts to entertainment for fans and bragging rights for the school. Basically, 75% of the coaches could be replaced for 10% of the cost and achieve the same mediocre results. Schools are overpaying for coaches hoping they'll become the next Saban.
Facts though. Jimbo was probably the first one who got a mega bag without coaching a down and still producing average records 3 years in. Getting beaten by Ole Miss who Kiffin just got to. They focus on Mel because he got a bag. Not all these mega contracts are gonna work out and some fans are gonna be hella mad when a coach is a bum in year 4, and they got 6 years left to pay him.

Let’s keep it a buck when coaches that are not black get over paid, it’s ok but when a black coach gets paid people who’s pocket didn’t contribute to the contract have an opinion! Hmmmm!
There's probably some truth to this in general but I think everyone really noticed with Tucker because he got an insanely massive contract after only 4 or 5 games (pretty sure, don't remember exactly when and am too lazy to check) into his second year after going 2-5 his first year. The entire coaching market was completely reset by that one move. I don't remember a coach ever getting such a crazy increase in pay so fast. He also got a fully guaranteed contract and his buyout is like $2 mil or something. His agent destroyed the school (schools suck at negotiating btw-different topic though).

He's a good coach though obviously.

That's true because there's only room for a few teams at the top. A lof coaches got a big payday simply because of the coaching carousel with their names tossed around with several schools.

It all started with LSU creating an opportunity let go og Orgeron followed by Lincoln Riley leaving OU for USC. This was the beginning of the money grab.

Except for the money, the only things that have changed are the expectations and they shouldn't. Whatever a coach was before his big payday is who he is today. Money isn't going to change what any coach brings to the table. Their pockets are just deeper. Jimbo getting a big bag at TAMU doesn't guarantee a championship. Nor does Kelly at LSU.

I view the Tucker situation quite differently. Tucker ha a been in coaching a long time and is finally getting his opportunity as a head coach. MSU realized they have a good coach and were willing ot overpay to keep him. Tucker has MSU roots. He cut his teeth there as a GA making $400/month. Unlike TAMU, LSU, and perhaps USC, I don't think MSU expects a national championship. I think they'd be happy with 9-10 ein seasons and competing for Big 10 titles every once in a while.

I’m always skeptical of guys who ride success off of a transfer. Props to Tucker for finding Walker but can he consistently do that? $9.5 Million is a lot for a guy who’s been average until this year.

Never underestimate this board's ability to make a controversial figure out of anyone. The man's a good coach. You can dissect his record and who he had, or didn't have, and who they had and didn't have, but they went 11-2. Bad coaches very seldom win 11 games, especially at a place like Michigan State where the recruiting base is really thin.
Agreed.

Those saying, "I'd like to see what Tucker could do without so and so is pointless." Getting top players is part of the deal for any college coach and he's not getting top players. He's finding 3-4 star diamonds thst fit his program.

Nick Saban wouldn't have won any championships without all the top players he had at Bama and LSU. He's not making 3-stars into 5-stars the way Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State, Iowa, and Wisconsin do. None of which has won or will ever win a natty.

I think what they're really trying to imply is that Tucker can't coach and he only won those games with a ringer at RB. They're trying to perpetuate old stereotypes. Just silly.
