Mel Kiper Talks Miami

wants to be papa al for the U, long stay, quality and winning program, prediction.

I hope so, but I'm sure this NCAA debacle has put quite a sour taste in his mouth for the college level. If he leaves, he's not going to put up with this crap and another university. It will be for the big leagues. Jmho

Golden is nowhere near ready for the nfl.

No, not quite yet. However, yet another person who knows a **** of a lot more about football and coaching than you do who would disagree with your asinine view that Golden is not a good coach.

If golden was to leave for the nfl who you want the next coach to be? Looking at the track record at miami i think they would make cristobal the #1 target. I say maybe a kirby smart at bama or charlie strong.

Golden is like a CEO, man with a plan the is being implemented and executed over time, IMO he would be successful wherever he goes, the proof will be this year and next. He believes in the community, university, his staff and players. Keep the faith we almost back.

I would be shocked if Golden left after this year. If he leaves in 2-3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if, despite the lack of previous head coaching, we gave Coley the opportunity. He's not an "internal hire" for the sake of continuity the way Coker was and he's still a guy with a lot of room for growth. That'd probably be a better alternative than bringing in someone with HC experience and wiping out the existing framework.

Of course, this is all pure speculation and Golden needs to win first.

Golden doesn't seem like an NFL guy to me. Can you imagine him on an NFL sideline with a white long sleeve shirt and tie? can't see it.

Are you kidding?

NFL players would absolutely LOVE Golden. His enthusiasm and energy would permeate an NFL locker room.

He has to win to prove it, but he reminds me a whole **** of a lot of Jimmy Johnson

Goldenis young as **** for an HC. If hes here for seven years he will have refined his HC skills to the enth degree. I can see him bolting just before he turns 50 for the NFL.

I believe Al Golden likes college coaching and really doesn't want to go to the NFL but, before we promote him he still has to produce on the field. I believe that he will produce and also that he's happy in Miami; he realizes the wealth of high school talent in South Florida and also that those kids for the most part like to stay near their families.

The University of Miami already pays Golden $2.1 million per year (from Federal Tax filings) and I'm sure that they would take him to market price whatever that might be as long as it is a realistic market. The people at UM have seen it's too expensive to constantly change coaching staffs and realize the importance of stability.

In the meantime we wait on the vindictive NCAA and their seemingly intentional delays that are meant to interfere with the start of the season.

I think chud may end up being the next coach, unless he does something a Browns coach hasn't done in years; give a coach an extension. Remember, Bellichick couldn't even turn that team around.

Makes me proud as **** to hear people talk about our coach like that.... sure as **** don't hear them talking about Jimbo or Muschump going to the NFL

Golden just seems more of a fit for the college game...he's a CEO type, not really an X's and O's guy. I'm not saying CEO types can't thrive in the NFL...just saying he's likely to have more success in the college ranks.
and wait until he gets a taste for winning. he is already probably pinching himself over the fact that he has a seat at the dinner table with so many quality prospects. he could never even dream of the type of talent within an escalade drive from coral gables.

if you dont think golden is going to look at how the nfl worked out for butch davis, you are nuts. i think he wants to create a dynasty here.

you might convince yourself of this argument, but it's wishful thinking to believe Golden will. i suspect he has the supreme confidence to believe he'd have the success of Jimmy Johnson. and that's assuming he'd compare himself to any past UM coaches, which is doubtful. he's far more likely to compare himself to personal mentors, such as Parcells and Groh. and before you say Groh sucked at the NFL level, I'd venture to guess that Golden would anticipate that he could learn from Groh's mistakes.

I certainly hope Golden is around UM for a long time. But it's naive to dismiss Kiper's prediction out of hand.

if you think UM can remotely compete with the NFL regarding head coach salaries, you're deluding yourself.

First he has to win. We should get there first.
But if he does, and the NFL wants him, they will make it very difficult for him to stay.

Chip Kelly. 5 yrs 32 million.

But while we are talking about crazy future scenarios. Maybe we win for a couple of years, Golden goes to NFL, and we promote D'Onofrio to HC.

I'm hoping if that disastrous day would ever come the next coach would be someone nobody has heard of.
Sort of like the hick Jimmy Johnson, the Appleseed Dennis Erickson, or a nobody like Al Golden.
These types of hires seemed to work out well for us.
