matthew changes stance on canes

I love the thought of Perryman, Johnson, Kirby, Thomas. I think all 4 of those kids are playmakers, something we've lacked as a collective group at LB.

I think using 3-4 looks makes sense to get them on the field. I could also see Bostwick and Bryant as 3-4 DE's when it's all said and done as well.

I've maintained since I first saw Thomas and thought about how he fits into our D, that he is literally someone the Defense can be built around because on top of his talent being immense, he can be as multiple as the coaches want the defense to be.

In terms of his size, yeah he may only be around 210, but his frame is impressive. You could just tell he will easily put on great weight and carry it well. Not saying he will ever be 260, but he will carry 240 with the same explosiveness he has now.

Al Golden changing minds, yet again.

Truth. That was my biggest issue under Shannon. He did not change minds. If a kid was leaning elsewhere we just gave up.

That right there has always been the key to recruiting. Sure we will always get our Dukes and such who were always gonna be Canes. Its about getting the kids that are indifferent or had no interest at all that makes you a great recruiter. We talk about Howard last year, but the example that stood out was McCord last year. We were no where to be found on the kid's radar, but after a couple months there was interest. Then the article came out, and the kid said Miami was out. Al stayed on the kid and eventually he committed, that was impressive to me.

I think elite players like Duke Johnson are rare. Most kids want to play in front of their friends and family. But if they're elite and watching Bama and USC winning on national TV and sending kids to the pros like we used to do, then they get personal attention from Nick Saban et al., it's no surprise they look elsewhere given our current program. They need to believe that Golden is here for the long-term, and that the team is headed in the right direction back to national prominance. They need to see themselves in a Canes uniform on national television playing in championships and being drafted.

Golden can sell that, especially with the help of the alumni, former HS teammates now at the U, HS football coaches now tied into Golden's camp and training system, and the families who see kids mature into men under his care. That's why he'll pull back in these local kids, even the elite ones, most of the time.

Always been a Cane dont need ya internet nerds approval. Just keep it real if an in state rival is recruiting well. Im allowed to have an opinion I think thats why we are he is it?

And watch, in 3 months, he'll have FSU or Alabama has his leader and everyone will freak out.

We put 14 in camps last year off a 6-6 team, 11 the year before off a 7-6 team.

We still get the numbers, but the star players haven't been there. That's probably what he's referring to. We have Graham as probably the only young superstar in the league where a decade ago we had like 10 or more young stars in the league.

Perhaps, but it's still as much if not more than anyone else and that is all that really matters. More players get the opportunity, what they do with it is up to them.

Calais Campbell will be a superstar as more people see him. Beason has been an elite linebacker. If McCarthy ever stayed healthy he could make that leap. Lots of other guys making plays, like Travis Benjamin tonight. It's not what it was but still better than most if not all.

Sam Shields? Orlando Franklin? Colin McCarthy? I still consider Beason as young. T. Benji looks to be pretty good, although undersized. We've got some players up there at the next level. Don't sleep.

I agree with you on Campbell, he slipped my mind. Not saying we don't still have a ton of talent in the league, but I just don't see the Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Andre Johnson, Sean Taylor caliber players. Of course those guys are all-time greats, so it may not be fair. And you're right we still have as much if not more than almost every other school, but when you compare it to the early 2000s it doesn't compare. Then again, that's a completely unfair comparison because no school has ever done that and probably won't again. We've definitely been spoiled with players in the league.
