To the experts:

I've seen this kids highlights and he looks great. But, honestly, I don't see a "DAY 1" starter. I see a kid who is rail thin and is going to need a solid summer in the weight room before he's college ready. I'm not saying the kid isn't good, He's a natural. But there's alot of comments about him starting immediately, and I just dont see it...

BTW, I'm not trying to disrespect the kid, I think he's going to eventually dominate at the college level. But I would really worry about next year if he's a full-time LB for us next year.

sounds like he thought we were going to completely suck *** and didn't want to be part of that (can't blame him)

and if we can crank out a respectable season, we'll have a real shot

He may not start Eddie Johnson is doing good, Denzel will start and hopefully Kirby is starting next year but he thomas will make two deep

Yea he will play a lot for sure ! He's said he was enrolling early in the past as well so that gives him time to get big

He will sure push those guys to be better and will play a ton on ST's and be on the field a lot as Valid alluded to.

This kid's going to play anywhere he goes, but especially here. We are absolutely dying for someone who can get off the ball and pressure a quarterback. He can do it very well. His athleticism is such that he's going to be valuable even before he puts on all the weight he still definitely needs to add.

It also seems with some of the DL we are going after we could play more 3-4 in future years, then you can get Johnson, Perryman, Kirby, and Thomas on the field. That would be a very athletic LB corp.

Imagine our front 7 2-deep in 2014:

DE: Chickillo Sr - Hamilton Jr
NT: Bryant So - Ivery R-So
DT: Pierre Sr - Bostwick R-Fr
RE: McCord Jr - Thomas So

SLB: Johnson R-Jr - Armbrister Sr
MLB: Perryman Sr - Blue R-So
WLB: Kirby Jr - Grace R-Fr

Your concerns are valid. He weighs 208 now and will have the opportunity to bulk up to at least 225 before he plays a college game. He doesn't have great size and he's actually raw when it comes to the fundamentals of the position like stance, footwork, coverage, etc. BUT he plays much bigger than his size and converts his speed and quickness to power. He can be physical with blockers and he's simply a defensive playmaker who aggressively attacks the ball and makes things happen.

As a freshman at Miami I'd project him to factor in mostly as a pass-rushing specialist. We have a solid LB group returning and Thomas will need time to become a 3-down player, but he has rare pass rushing ability that only Tyriq McCord can even approximate. I think Thomas would be our leading sack guy next year, and by a good margin.
