Mario not defending Cam

Cam had free reign here to do what he wanted but this was the time Mario should’ve stepped in and been like “ I appreciate everything you’ve done here but you need to just sit this one out or play all the way through”. There’s no such thing as half way pregnant. It was handled badly.

Mario shows entirely too much favoritism/worship of his QB’s. Remember him repeatedly saying TVD was the best QB in the country? That aged well. He needs to be a leader and stop bending over for every QB we have. They don’t need to have free reign.

The decision isn’t the problem.. Cam deserved going for the record and playing just a half if he wanted. Mario obviously was ok with it and allowed it.

The issue is how Mario has handled it since the game. It’s ****ed up him throwing the man under the bus and basically allowing all the bs being said about Cam since online.

There’s three ways this could’ve been handled. Two that were right and one that was absolutely incorrect.

1. Sit the game and there’s not one peep from anyone. ✅

2. Play the entire game , get celebrated and sucked off like Shadeur and Travis. ☑️

3. Tell everyone you’re playing then proceed to get sucked off by everyone at how unselfish you are. Start the game and play just to break a record then go sit down at the half. Sorry but that’s the one thing you couldn’t have done.

Him playing affected betting markets and peoples money. People going to the game that maybe wouldn’t have , people that spent money on the trip and hotels. Then there’s the optics.

So he’s willing to play a half and not be worried about the chances of an injury but a full game is too risky ? lol.

I know this is a Cane board but of course it was a bad look for all the things I’ve mentioned . Opinions would be different if was a nole that did the same thing.

Imo it’s not a huge deal and all will be forgotten in a few days but he made a wrong decision and now he’s eating it . Welcome to being a pro and an adult . It’s a learning experience but whoever advised him should be slapped in the face lol.
Those 3 options are only looking at it from Cams perspective.

From Miamis perspective I absolutely could argue given Bowl games are now essentially meaningless, the most important outcome was getting some more game film on Emory…. And that went horribly. Well it went good for us in that we saw what we needed to.

Personally I would have preferred for Cam to play the whole game or Cam to come back in at the very end to get a 2min game winning drive to win. But I’d still rather have had Cam play the half than not play at all personally.

Why can't Cam address it??? It was his decision. Mario might have known, but I guarantee you he wanted his star QB in the game. Cam got paid 2 million dollars this year. Be an adult and address it. His issue is that there is nothing he can say to make it better. He chose to dip on his team at halftime after playing for a personal record. How can he spin that? He should come out and say it was a mistake and a mitch move. I'd respect him again if he did that

… but people get pregnant all the time without delivering at the end lol

Oddsmakers and serious gamblers are perhaps smarter than you give them credit. They do their homework and take into account various possibilities. Believe most people on this board assumed Emory would get some playing time - much, it now turns out, to the dismay of his fan club.
Yeah, it turned out to be a bad look for the program, but that’s on the head coach. Maybe he needs to sit in on a public relations class or two, Can’t believe the plan wasn’t discussed and agreed to in advance of the game. If not, even more of a shame on Mario. You don’t then throw QB who saved your *** this season under the bus. It’s a meaningless bowl game. Nothing wrong with playing Cam and then giving meaningful time to see what you have going forward in Emory,
Doesn’t seem hard for the head coach to say post-game.

at halftime Saturday he was talking about Cam’s DNA and was pushing that pretty heavy in the game lead up.

Even if it was a real time decision by cam to not play I still think Mario needs to defend it. He can seethe on the inside.

They knew what they had in Emory before this game. They wouldn't even let him throw. Mario did not want Emory in that game. Mario wanted to win, which required Cam playing.

Spare me on the throwing him under the bus . They’re grown ups now and it’s a business where guys are making business decisions . Why should Mario cover his *** ? Yes Mario is at fault for letting it unfold like this, but Cam is a big boy . Double spare me on the Emory stuff . He handed the ball off for a quarter and a half lol. Nobody with sense bought that. He should’ve sat the game out and nobody would’ve cared. Miami , Mario and Cam handled this horribly.

Mario was asked right after the game.. that was the very 1st opportunity to address it.. he chose to make this a lot more complicated than it needed to be. This falls on him

Yeah, it’s definitely a business and Cam is moving on as likely a top 3-4 pick. Mario is the one attached to the program and responsible for protecting it. Blame falls on him for signing off on the plan and then further making a mess post-game.

Players and the agents have all the power now.

I imagine Cam told Mario he was playing. Then as the game got closer the agent is pushing Cam not to play, but they settle on playing a half. Cam goes to Mario with the new plan. Mario is in tough spot.

Mario wanted to win the game. The dude lives and breathes Miami football. He didnt want to have to play Emory against maybe best team we have played. Especially after Horton extortion attempt, and X and Brown bailing.

Mario is trying not to throw Cam under bus, and maybe he could have handled and worded it differently postgame.

orrrr what if the Giants called Cam and said we seen enough ! We are drafting you do not go back out there n risk a injury 👀 👀 😂 hah that would be wild
the same Giants that played themselves out of the top pick with a win lol. God I hope Cam goes to Tennessee or NY. I can't bear to watch another Cane end up in Cleveland and fade into irrelevance. Duke, Njoku, Tracy Howard, Chad Thomas, anyone else I'm missing? Some of those guys had ok careers, but didn't play in a meaningful game their entire career. Yes I'm aware the expectations were low for some as well.

Mario makes $8M to run the program not be a baby, have no backup, get butthurt and then make the end of the year even worse.

Is he excelling at anything right now?

If you are taking anything Jason Brown says seriously, or using him to prove a point, odds are you've completely lost the plot. Jason Brown is a complete idiot that is living proof that some places will hire anyone and a team can be talented enough to overcome a complete buffoon leading them.

The point of the matter is this: No matter what Mario would have said post game, once the act was done, people were going to run with a narrative, especially if Miami lost, which is exactly what happened. No coach worth a **** is going to say pregame "Well, Cam is going to only play one half, prepare accordingly". Anyone that watched the Pop Tarts bowl could obviously see that the plan was to get Emory some reps. Emory wasn't warming up regularly throughout the season, he was throwing the rock around on the sidelines Saturday. After halftime, Cam was behaving as if he was fully aware of what was happening, as if it had been discussed beforehand. Cam was still active in huddles, he was consistently talking to Emory, it was obvious he was still engaged. It looked like a starter cheering on a backup in an NFL preseason game. If he was just there for the record, he wouldn't have done all of that, honestly, he likely would have been in street clothes at half. He played an entire half, when he had the record in hand in the first quarter.

Never mind the fact that Cam wasn't the only starter to sit the second half. Jacolby George, Arroyo and others were also not playing as often if at all. Honestly, I was shocked that Martinez was still playing, but I think the plan was to salt the game away with the run and get him out, but the defense is just that terrible. Iowa State was playing their starters, with few major subs, it was obvious from Miami's substitution patterns that some younger guys were getting burn for evaluation purposes.

Don't get me wrong, my previous comment doesn't excuse the meltdown we saw(Guidry still being employed is an affront to us all), but I also understand where this game is going and why. I'm not shocked that our "Fans" would jump to the defense of people that are obviously lying(if not trolling for clicks), because well, that's our fanbase. There's a lot of money to be made in bashing Miami, because you can straight up lie and the fanbase will go along with it, along with the sizeable amount of people that outright hate the program. It's a unique phenomenon. If you tell the mopes what they want to hear, they will eat it up, alongside the usual suspects. It's an endless feedback loop "It has to be true, their own fans believe it".

Mario should cover his *** if he wants show recruits that he's got their back. He just showed as a coach that I will gladly throw you under the bus to protect myself. A leader doesn't do that. The reward Mario received from Cam playing here is just as much if not more than Cam received. After watching this season, I'm not sure if Mario ever sees another 10 win season while at Miami unless he has a star QB.

At the end of the day, Mario agreed to this. If he didn't then that's another story. As a fan, while I hate the current culture to sit out, I'm glad we even got a half and a 31 point start and put in a position to win. Some of these responses make me feel like he should have not played at all and we could get blown out by 35. I'm sure that would have looked a lot better and we could focus all the hate on Mario.

Literally all he had to say was this was planned before the game as a last chance for fans and Cam to watch him play as a Cane while reducing the risk of injury. Unfortunately we lost, but we got a lot of good looks at the returning players. Super simple answer.

I stand by all of them are at fault at how it was handled. Just something new to add to the list

UM/Mario should have stated before the game that Cam was only slated to play a half. But then that would give away some super secret “strategerie” to Iowa State.
