Manny playing chess......cat's about to come out the bag.....

I understand the thought of if it is silent than it's not really a commit, but a public commit is not binding and can (and we all know, have) change. Would it be nice for some of the silents to commit to build up excitement, sure. But I am sure some of them have legitimate reasons to stay silent.

I think maybe if another school knows and it's public they will go heavy bags like uf did with Marshal. I don't know I am trying to look for an excuse lol. Possibly a momentum and optics things that we closing strong gives the aura of we are big time. Usually bama and those big dogs do it this way to show u are on the uprise late which sticks in kids minds. The last thing u do is what most people think of.

Maybe I'm wrong

Maybe they dont want to spoil kids moments? Alot of these kids have said they want to announce at the All American bowl games or on certain dates that are meaningful to them. I remember this bored killig Al Blades Jr for waiting so long to announce his commitment when little did most people know he wanted to do it on his fathers day or it was his father birthday cant remember. But the date was meaningful to him.

I say follow whether or not we go to our Plan B kids for some positions and im sure we can figure out who the silents are. If we stop recruiting LBs then we know the LB board is full and we have some silents. I havent heard any other LBs we are recruiting besides Tolan, WB and Jackson. Same with Striker. JThomas and Lathan we basically let walk...So maybe Cull is a silent? Just an examples.

Shot in the dark, I'm just reading the tea leaves from his WQAM interview the other day but maybe he's trying to protect the brand? Like it or not, we've been dubbed decommit U for a reason. Quan was going to be our ambassador a month ago, now he's a decommit. WE know he played himself and got dropped, but the optics from the outside and the narrative from everyone else is going to be "another decommit". If kids are silent and decide to bounce, they were never committed publicly anyway right? Manny spoke to winning the recruiting battles come NSD instead of over the summer, he even mentioned the run of de-commitments we've had in the past in that interview IIRC.

Personally, I like the idea of building on the momentum of other recruits going public, especially if they're highly coveted or we beat out SEC/bag schools for them. But if Manny & staff feel good about the kids they have and want to give them their moment, **** it, as long as I can litter the board in *** when they decide to pop.
Agree I have no problem with it

I would say some of these "silents" would be like Graves who has a date set to make the announcement and has already let the staff know...besides that I also dont understand the point of being a silent
This I have no problem with and I actually hope this is the type of guys he’s talking bout that have a commitment date coming up soon. If he is talking bout some guy who isn’t signing til early signing day or some **** then that’s ridiculous.

Durant, Graves and Cull appear to be the most likely. Those kids commit during a dead period. They're not dragging it out and being silents doesn't keep you from recruiting other kids because everyone is on a break anyway. A nice situation where you let the kids have "their moment" while not being handcuffed by those drawn out timelines.

I think because of Manny's own rule, we take your commitment, and you are not allow to visit : so they take a silent and let the cat go on visits, and everyone saves face :
Say huh?

"So you can date me secretly and you can see others on other dates but you best not tell anyone we are dating while you are seen on those dates with others"

There's at least 11 kids announcing this upcoming month, most people think we get 5 of them but Manny might just be saying it's more like 8 of them. He's letting them have their moment and it doesn't hurt anyone, they don't want to pressure a kid into committing ala Al Golden and now Norvell at FSU just to get left hanging at the alter. There's a saying in sales that "everyone loves to buy but nobody likes to be sold". Manny is letting these kids be buyers instead of forcing their hands and making them feel like they've been sold.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert here, so perhaps someone who is a little closer to today's recruiting landscape can educate me, but I've been asking the same question for years.

Truly, what are the kids gaining or not gaining by these supposed "silent commits"? To me, you're a literal side chick. "Sure baby, you're my girl, but we just can't tell anyone about it. No no, don't post that. I love you too much to let the world know. Yeah, I'll be over later. On Christmas? Oh no, sorry, I'm working. But we can have our Christmas the next night, OK baby?"

You're a side hoe. I can see like a couple hours, or a day. If you want to get an edit made (as a grown man it's difficult to type that, but I get it), if you want to tell your family, something like that. But weeks? Months? I'm sure I'm missing something here, and I'm genuinely not being a smart ***, but what does a kid like Shemar Stewart, as a generic example, gain or not gain by telling Manny he's committing but not telling anyone else. Is it really that big of a state secret? Does he want to be able to go to other places and get paid for visits? And if so, is Manny letting silent commits take visits but not public commits? This all seems so silly.
The dreaded silent commit.....

The only logical reasons are staff wants them to strategically announce them for momentum purposes. Use it to deflect bad pub, hype of Miami in the media.

B. kid wants some random day to announce that’s I’mportant to them

or C. committed until gets a better offer but doesn’t want anyone to know about it, which means he’s really not committed

Could be blowing hot air rn, but from a branding and marketing perspective it’d make sense for kids to be more strategic with “big moments”.

Florida allowing athletes to make money with player image and likeness turns a commitment more into a product launch than what it meant in the past.

The biggest thing imo is the kids be has an extreme level of confidence in committing in July while basically kind of sticking it to FSU. Not saying I agree and we all know Canes fans get triggered by " silent commits" but we know we're about to get big commits in the next few weeks

People forget July is this weekend and the dead period has started. These silents or other prospects will start jumping in the boat here shortly. Be patient.
You are not wrong but I can understand some getting a bit anxious when other schools are 15+ at this point and 75% of the Top 100s have verballed (I know it is not binding) so I can get some questions. I don't really care but this ultimately needs to be a Top 15 class minimum off average player rating, not overall

Then what’s the point of not going public
After seeing how Manny has done recruiting the last two cycles, I think he’s just letting kids do it in their own time. If he was saying this in November I’d be worried. But there’s a ton of guys announcing soon. Only makes sense some have silently committed.

I think it’s a recruiting tactic to make a splash. If no one publicly knows where these kids are going, it’s a lot more of a wow factor when they choose us on NSD or ENSD as opposed to “oh he’s been committed there for months now, nothing new to see”. Maybe it’s a shock the world type deal when a string of recruits start choosing the U. Then all eyes are on us as opposed to everyone knowing where these kids were going ahead of time. Just my opinion. Who knows if it’s right or not
