Maason Smith 2.0

Its not the fact that schools like LSU and Alabama produce R1 players at a rate unlike any other, its the bags.

C'mon, bruh. I'm not saying they aren't a part of the equation, but they aren't the only part, and IMO, they are a small part of it.
Do LSU and Alabama sign the top players because they produce first round picks or do they produce first round picks because they sign all the best players? It would be one thing if they were turning a bunch of three star nobodies into superstars but the best high school players tend to turn into the best college players.

their consistent success allows them to be more attractive to top kids and bc theyre attracting top kids, higher chances of them being first round picks no? bama wasnt putting this out pre saban (obviously after the old days). same w lsu pre saban.

with that, if youre a high star kid and see kids at LSU and Bama getting picked early, wouldnt you want to go there bc youre more likely to be picked early than not. i think what will help us big time is Greg and Phillips this year/next year (whenever new 15 decides to declare) bc itll finally two early picks on the DL that we havent had in a LONG time

They don't JUST put the 5-stars into the pros. Alabama has put guys from the entire spectrum of ratings into the league. Whether its Eddie Jackson (3-star), Kareem Jackson (3-star), Dont'a Hightower (low 4-star), Irv Smith Jr., Josh Jacobs, among others.

People are just always looking for an excuse as to why kids go to Alabama and LSU v. Miami...its not always about the money. Maybe there are some here n there where that was the only factor...but playing in big time games, going to the playoffs, and winning a national championship while getting drafted high and starting in the NFL is a nice offer package before you even discuss money.

Its been a while since a senior class at Bama came and went without a national championship. I believe 2005? Thats 15 years where as a player you are getting a championship before you leave Alabama.

the latter.

Oh, it's definitely a chicken or the egg type of situation. And yes, producing early draft picks will make recruiting players at that position easier. I'm just not as big of a believer in "development" as some others are. All players need to be coached up but if you have guys who are naturally better athletes, it's much easier to make them into productive players. If a defensive linemen really was truly basing his choice on who's developing players, I'd have to look at Miami and say "they turned 3* Greg Rousseau into a 1st rounder".

We can pull some guys from $EC jaws at certain positions.. but I'll believe CBs, DTs, and elite WRs when I see them. (Mark Pope being a recent exception)

Outside Saban there is zero reason to go to Bama over Miami which obviously is a massive selling point

Miami better school, better location, etc

Bama has put 4 DL in the first round of the draft and 6 in the 2nd round during the Saban era. Two of the four 1st rounders were 5 stars. The other two were 4 stars. The second rounders consist of (1) 5* player, (4) 4* players and (1) 3* player (Terrance Cody).

I don’t know if I buy him coming but if it’s really only LSU in the race I can’t see him thinking that’s a good spot right now?!? We’re hot and they’re not so maybe this crazy year ends with a bang for us.🤷‍♂️
Is that a Freudian slip using the word “buy” when discussing Smith and LSU? That is frankly my biggest concern is that LSU makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

showing they just get the best of the best at that position. Cody was essentially a 3 star because he came from juco.

Kids don't care about wins

They just won a title as well
Huh? I think you mean kids dont care about wins BUT take into consideration program trajectory. If kids didnt care about wins at all then FSU would be sitting pretty right now instead of losing a recruit every other day. Wins and losses are important to recruits. No recruit wants to join a losing program and a program that is a train wreck.

He hasn’t been here since 2019 paradise camp if I remember correctly. It’s going to be hard to convince me he’s genuinely interested when he hasn’t been here in over a year and he has taken trips to his other contenders on his own dime.

Nobody has been to Miami for nearly a year.

We have gotten kids for years without doing anything also the trajectory for UF no one knew and kids were still picking them. To many contradicting factors in my opinion and if u can contradict something I scrape it off as a legend.

This is the best bet for certain. Anything can happen, and people will bring up Seantrel, Brevin... whoever, but we whiff on most.

I’d like to think that the kid makes a scheme fit decision with long term career implications but it’s hard to be encouraged when you see a kid like Darnell Washington go to UGA last year.
You had to go and remind of that after I had successfully blocked it out.
