We also keyed on some "lowly" 3 stars/low 4 stars that lowered our recruiting ranking but I would take over a lot of the high 4 stars in their positions. There are very few QBs I would have chosen over Nickel, and the staff seems to feel the same way, yet he's a 3 star or low 4 star in the various rankings. Same with Malachi Toney. He looks like an early impact gamebreaker with a limitless ceiling, but he's a 3 star. I'm glad we got him over most of the 4 stars that would have increased our ranking. I don't see us as having taken a class off y’all

It's just not sustainable. How the **** do you build a roster?!

I would think at some point you sign then with commitment for X number of seasons barring first round grade to nfl
Or
Some sort of vesting schedule with $ so if they leave they leave the unvested portion just like you would working for a company that provides stock options or RSU’s, there usually is a multi year vesting schedule

The portal seems to be something where you have to be able to do your evals and then act quickly and it’s something Mario doesn’t do.

Maybe I’m wrong but that’s the way it seems to me cause it seems every weekend we have all these top kids in and Mario doesn’t seem to be able to close on them at that time. Every kid says “ Miami is great and I love the place” but next thing you know he’s gone elsewhere.Throw whatever best shot you have to throw while the kid is on the “ visit high”.make him feel like he is getting an amount that won’t be matched and don’t let him leave.ABC…”always be closing”.

The portal is a place where you make your play and do it quickly before you have 5-6 teams you have to contend with instead of an initial 1-2 especially when the longer it goes the more money it’s going to cost cause every other team will figure out the money you’re throwing at a particular kid.

Maybe I’m wrong but it just seems to me that the teams doing the best in the portal are closing kids while they’re on campus….

Sounds like teams need a gm and an extensive evaluation dept so you can stay up to speed and move quickly

With Mateer already off the board, I’m struggling to even think of 3 big-name QBs coming back that would be shocking/exciting. Ewers/Milroe both wouldn’t be shocking nor would they be exciting. Dart? Is he going pro?
