Kevin Beard

By all outward indications Beard has done a good job. But, we don’t know the inside the facility stuff. Mario’s career has shown he will push people hard and if not satisfied he will “encourage “ them to leave. The assistant is also a professional and you don’t embarrass either side. I wish KB well, and hope Mario upgrades…..

Deflection from what?

I'm not the Head Coach of the team, I don't make roster decisions nor do I do decide who gets hired.

If you wanna know why Beard doesn't have a contract extension, ask the HC.

From your original response and argument to me.

You said that since other teams have some 2nd year WR that have produced more they are in so much better shape than us. I said that was a shaky assumption, because if you take out the elite handful in that group…The captain obvious handful...many of those same 2nd year players would have played no more than Trader or Joseph did here.

The receivers were very, very seasoned last season. Add in a Heisman QB, excellent OL/TE combined with a balanced run-game & it’s expected for that group to produce in a system they were familiar with. You can’t coach talent or experience.

Plenty of your points are valid. Beard did his job & I wish him all the best. Our inevitable downfall next season won’t be because he’s not here though.

Yeah...

And I said so explain why we're still on the hunt for WR's right now if guys like Trader & Ray Ray are supposed to be shoo-in starters?

Again, if the WR's that have been recruited over the last 2 years were as good as some of you believe, there wouldn't be a mad rush sentiment to add 1 possibly 2 more from the Portal for Spring.

And Mario would've already made sure that KB got a contract extension.

If you wanna argue til the cows come home about KB, by all means go ahead. Just direct your grievances to the man responsible for keeping him on staff.

Feels convenient for me be on Team Beard. Like if Beard leaves, it's easy ammo for him to start criticizing Mario again. These dudes are so predictable.

Caneville also out there saying JoJo, Chance, Toney will all transfer if Beard leaves.

Riiiggghhhht.

It was abundantly clear they were very well coached. Polished, patient, technical, excellent hands and body control. Is some of that natural talent? Sure. But we've had plenty of kids with natural talent at that position who couldn't play a lick once the lights came on.

Can we do better? I don't know. I'm sure we can, but that's not the question. The question is WILL we do better?

At the end of the day, I think of Beard a lot like I thought of Mike Rumph. A better teacher than he is a communicator and recruiter. And, I think we know what Mario prioritizes.

I think it's a loss, unless we get someone who is an equivalent teacher and better recruiter. Those guys certainly exist. Will we get one?

But I was very impressed with the play of the receivers this year.
Mario’s eventual demise will be his overwhelming penchant on recruiters. Of course, coaches that hustle and recruit are a necessity, but **** well better have position coaches who are also technicians and can coach. Mario apparently still doesn’t get it. We had the talent to make a title run this past season, but didn’t because we got out-coached when it mattered by staffs with less talent. We had a DC and position coaches who failed making adjustments throughout the season and Mario, a vaunted recruiter, as head coach was himself clueless to fix the problems.

Yeah...

Couple things

Maybe some of that mad rush is this message board more so than the staff…There may be a reason they threw more money (if they did, I don't know maybe you do) at O'Connor and Lucas, etc…Than the GT WR, the TAMU WR, etc, etc). Sure a lot of it was that secondary was putrid lol…But there could have been a level of comfort with Trader/Horton/Daniels more that the fanbase.

Also maybe it was a true shock they lost Horton, they were expecting to lose 3 with over 1500 snaps and what 170 catches instead of 1900 snaps and 210 catches (I'm estimating these numbers, not looking them up, but you get the picture)…I mean you have to admit some of it is sheer numbers?

And finally it's worth noting that I don't believe we went after one portal WR that had more than 2 yrs remaining and most had just 1.

I prefaced this all with I can take or leave KB, I don't think he's been a great recruiter by any means, but I definitely think he's done more good than bad. Nor am I disagreeing with the fact we need to get better at WR. I just don't think that that 3 man class Beard's first year was a disappointment at all, and just because someone else got on the field and caught 25-30 balls somewhere else isn't going to change my mind.

Tbh all those receivers were not comfortable with Emory Williams and the uncertainty at QB

It should be a whole lot easier to recruit with Carson Beck in the spring portal

Y’all funny as **** acting like Beard wouldn’t be a loss. He brings structure in that room that we haven’t had since the last time he was here, outside of Rob Likens.
How many guys made Pro rosters out of Beard’s room the first time he was here?
Is stability not valuable? This would be a Huge Loss!

Idk why anyone would consider Ray Ray a starter. Trader on the other hand, yeah, I think it is fully reasonable for the expectation to be he steps up and starts. CJ Daniels Will start as well obviously.

We definitely have some very talented WRs; but we have 342 Receiving yards returning out of 4,527 receiving production (7.55%) - only 173 of which (3.8%) came from WRs currently on the roster. Obviously no matter how much you like the talent on the roster, it is extremely risky going into next season with ONLY those guys and requiring at least 4 to step up. That's a difficult ask, especially given only 3 of them have any actual game experience. And one of those guys' game experience was imo objectively bad. Furthermore we ONLY have 8 currently even on the roster right now, when ideally we'd have closer to like at least 12. 5 of our 8 WRs on the roster at this moment are Freshman or RS Freshman! So, yeah, We would be foolish to enter next season with this roster construction at WR, regardless if you think they are great or good, or just average.

Ideally we get the Top Wr in the spring portal, and then you have the debate about another one. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Ray Ray transfered out, and then it makes it obvious we should add 2. In fact that's probably the best case scenario at this point.

Structure? That’s a reach. A big one. There were issues in the WR room and KB’s personality is too passive to handle the divas.
