Kevin Beard

If greatness is the goal then the OC, HC and WR coaches are at fault, reminds me of the former entrenched WR dynamic Drop duo of Wiggins and Pope

I dunno. It seems to me the offense was great last year to which I find no fault to be placed on any of the coaches, including Beard.
Greatness was achieved.
Overall goal of having a great team failed to the other side of ball, not anything to do with Beard.
I just think firing a coach when his unit did well is risky and can be reckless unless, of course, there is more to the story that we aren't privy to.

Also, bad comparison between Jacoby George vs Pope and Wiggins. JG was a certified knucklehead, but he made plays too whilst the other two were not playmakers. Whether they will admit it like Jimmy Johnson or not, not all players are created equal and afforded the same benefits of playing time when you're a knucklehead. But, again, my point being this would not be a decision on Beard, as you hinted.

is he leaving cause Mario has an upgrade lined up, or because Beard has a better opportunity elsewhere?

If mario wanted to keep him, i assume we would.

Beard seems to love it here. And his resume doesnt exactly scream that he's ready to be an OC.

So what's the scoop?

If I’m making a list of underachieving position groups last year, Wide receiver is near the bottom. We had our most productive passing offense ever last year without a single first round talent in the room.
That is quite the measuring stick.

CIS insider/propaganda desk: "He's weird".

Whatever that means which can be Randy Shannon weird to "loves to troll local elementary schools in his white minivan" weird.

There's no easy answer. If Mario feels like Beard isn't cutting it, then he's gotta do what he's gotta do.

Obviously, he should only make a move if he's going to bring in someone better. But that's easier than it sounds.

For starters, who makes the hire? Dawson or Mario?

As far as the job, there's practically no returning production. The room lost its top 4 guys and we're going to be looking for at least one WR in the spring. Plus, the QB is a transfer, who's coming off an elbow injury.

Not exactly a great situation to walk into.

Then there's recruiting. We've already lost Cooney. If we go the rumored NFL route, the new guy will have to build recruiting relationships from scratch. Beard's rumored spot is Syracuse. Syracuse already leads for Russell. So that'll be a fight.

There's a lot going on here.

Who’s going to be quarterback at Notre Dame and Ohio State in 2025? Did they grab another senior transfer to take over for the senior transfer they had last year?

Look, I’m all for Carson Beck. I was beating that drum for a while. I was all for Cam too. But…if we’re going to replace coaches because they’re recruiting good but not great, quarterbacks need to be discussed.

Also, I’m not advocating for Dawson to be fired either. I’m just using the same standards people are applying to Beard to Dawson.
(Honestly discussing modern football) I think today there are differences between positions and the need to recruit HS and develop where others are buy the best on the market. For example, it is clear that QBs that have been bought do very, very well at new schools. But, shopping for say LT is different. You probably need to grow your own OL, LBs, RBs and perhaps WRs. Of course there are exceptions to both methods, but coaches of QBs at top programs will be OK buying a very good starter each year where coaches who fail to develop CBs will likely be on the hot seat.............................

Mario’s eventual demise will be his overwhelming penchant on recruiters. Of course, coaches that hustle and recruit are a necessity, but **** well better have position coaches who are also technicians and can coach. Mario apparently still doesn’t get it. We had the talent to make a title run this past season, but didn’t because we got out-coached when it mattered by staffs with less talent. We had a DC and position coaches who failed making adjustments throughout the season and Mario, a vaunted recruiter, as head coach was himself clueless to fix the problems.
Pin this response to the top. Everything said is 10000% on point.

Our quarterback room has been borderline pathetic if not for transfers the last two seasons. Maybe our QB coach should be upgraded. I mean if we’re really aiming for greatness. Or do we just hope we can buy a senior transfer who’s already been developed every year?
Aside from your husband's head gaining a new hole ma Lincoln, how was the show?

Yeah it's crazy how a room suddenly doesn't look good when you remove the great player from it at a position that only has 1 starter lol. Crazy how that works.

Except our DC wasn't a "recruiter", so... Sounds like you're saying the issue is the guy that was hired to be the X/O and technician didn't end up doing well. Was DNic supposed to only be a recruiter? What about Chevis? Pretty sure those two were both viewed as good technicians and recruiters for their position. Lol.

I agree with your point that we need to ensure we have great actual coaches and not just go for recruiters. That's fine for like RB coach and ****. But seems to me we just hired like 3 or 4 defensive coaches that should be at least good technicians, right? Lewis, Hetherman, and both DB coaches..... So ...

You want to give a coach credit for developing a finished product, go for it but I’m going to judge a coach based on how well he actually coaches a player. You do you though. We should have extended big Joe because Simeon Barrow played ao well for us.

You're assuming this was Beard's call to make.
JG should never have seen snaps over Jojo but beard was a success here in his second stint. the receiver room improved. JG is just too emotional to be playing football at a high level. he was talking **** all year to guys on the field and eventually it came back to bite him in the *** like it always does. the cuse incident was just karma for his dumbass. hes been talking **** to guys all year.
