Kalen Deboer

He lost to Vandy. VANDY. As the #1 team in the country.

That's not just "inherit a bad team and lose to someone you shouldn't lose to".

Let's see where Alabama goes next. I'm not saying Deboer will be fired, but maybe crowning him before Game 1 was premature?
I crowned Deboer as a better coach than Mario before game 1 based on coaching at Boise and Washington. DeBoer got that team to the natty game. Mario got us to Georgia Tech.

great coaches can pick wrong destinations, be a bad personality fit, etc.

I'm not saying this is one...but its something to watch.

I have been in the situation twice. One time I turned down a job that I think I should have taken but we were just starting a family and location was tough (Not for me but my wife) and in the end I probably did make the wrong choice but I dont regret it by any means because both places were tough situations. (Davis and Elkins, WV...very very remote)

Then one job I was a finalist for and they picked another guy. I had a good relationship with the AD and I told him very politely...I may not be the guy but I think you made the wrong choice. He is not a good fit culturally, he wont recruit the right types and he hasnt won on his own (meaning building something). That school has now gotten progressively worse 4 years in a row and based on the kids I see who have committed its getting no better. Probably a super nice guy...maybe a great coach. But it was easy to see this school wasnt a fit.

And sometimes quite simply the grass isnt always greener. Its why I appreciate coaches who win and stay for a long time. Because you know they get offers. But if you are making solid money, have a great set up, family life is great why risk it sometimes. At least at the D1 football level you will make life changing money and if you bomb after 3 years you get bought out and really never have to work again.

Nailed it.

Sometimes the grass you have is wholly adequate.

honestly I was an assistant at PSAC school. (D2 in PA). I loved it. The kids matched my personality, head coach gave me all the recruiting and pitching staff. We were building something special when I left there. I'm proud to stay I helped put the wheels in motion

I enjoyed my time as a head coach at two stops. I can handle the burden of being "the guy" But my last stop I didnt feel a connection to all the kids. I like blue collar, hard nosed kids. This was a private school with elite academics. Great kids but wired different.

oh ok-You have had lots of experiences.

Still coaching or no?

Are the Phillies going to beat the Mets?

For awhile they had the best team in baseball this year I thought.

I dont coach now. I miss it a ton. But I enjoy seeing my kids play (8 and 10). And I preached to my players all in or all out. There is no halfway. Coaching is the same. Recruiting, practices, texts all day from players, recruits, etc. Sometimes I do wonder if 8-10 years ago if I pursued a different path coaching wise (Instead of staying in my comfort zone) and going to be an assistant at a D1 would have changed everything. I dont regret it but I def think about...but the D1 allure was never really there for me. Although one of my recruiting pitches that parents appreciated was that I made it clear I was there for awhile and not just a pit stop until the next good job came along. I wasnt job chasing, I wasnt money driven, and I want to see this through and leave it better then I found it, but if Miami calls I am going to listen.

Phillies bullpen stinks and the Mets are the 1927 Yankees in the 8th/9th inning. Going to be a battle. As a baseball fan it should be an awesome series. As a Phillies fan and the last 2 Miami games I'm on quite the emotional rollercoaster.

Great stuff thx-Love to see the Phillies advance.

Ur right about the emotional rollercoaster!

He’s a prime example what a great QB can do for a coaches resume. Got Washington to the championship.

DeBoer is a better coach than Mario and it's probably not that close. This is extreme homerism. Come on now.

He is an excellent coach but he shouldn’t have left Washington for Bama. He’s never going to live up to Sabans legacy . When he was hired, I said that as soon as he loses one he shouldn’t, the honeymoon is over. And if he misses the sec championship game a couple years in a row, the Bama fans will say he’s a loser and they need a new coach. And Bama isn’t going to be as dominant going forward as they were under Saban as Bama isn’t the beneficiary of the ncaa letting them cheat at recruiting and scrutinizing everyone else. NIL is the great equalizer. If UM makes a playoff run, recruits will ask - do I get paid to go to Miami and have a chance to win a championship or do I go to Tuscaloosa? Cfb is infinitely better now.
