This is EXACTLY how this process should be conducted. Otherwise, why did we hire Zo? We have enough figureheads arounds as it is and Zo has the skillset and resume to really help Mario go from being a great recruiter and decent coach, to a National Championship winning coach.

About a year ago, I was up for two jobs. For Job 1, I literally started the process THREE MONTHS earlier than Job 2. I interviewed for Job 1 before Job 2. But Job 2 made an offer first. And everything else was pretty comparable. But I took Job 2.

And when I spoke to my recruiter, I told him I wasn't mad or anything. But if Job 1 had just MADE AN OFFER SOONER, there wouldn't even have been Job Offer 2.

I'm not saying that Mario's deliberate pace has cost us any candidates. But it also hasn't resulted in any jaw-dropping "what an amazing hire" situations either, at least at Miami. Sooooo...what has "taking a month or two to make a decision" gotten us?

Alonzo has worked in NFL front offices. He knows how to do things too. And he needs to get Mario to modify his process a bit.

Early signing day is right around the corner and kids are entering the portal in droves. I think coach is super focused on talent acquisition right now.

I agree with your first paragraph, and I think that is true for the HS/JuCo recruits as well. HS/JuCo kids will be signing binding LOIs in a couple of weeks, and by January they might have different coaches.

On your second paragraph, I also agree, we really stepped in a pothole by coming out of the gates so slowly ON COACHES AND SCHEMES. If we had started the year with horrific talent or had 3 wins the prior year or were playing a brutal schedule...there would be a better expectation that Year 1 could suck. And I won't deny that we had some bad injuries. But when you are playing what (honestly) was one of our easiest schedules since we joined the ACC...and we have the "blue chip index" that we had...and when we had guys who played well last year in the face of adversity...

...then it becomes pretty easy to point the fingers at the coaches when it all goes SO BADLY. And when you do that in Year 1...people might get nervous about whether you can just plug-and-play a couple of new coaches and turn things around so quickly.

Understandable. I think Mario can do this. But he NEEDS to rely on Alonzo doing Alonzo things too. Mario has already shown us that drinking a gallon of Cuban coffee every day doesn't insure that all of his decisions are home runs.
My biggest concern with Mario and the quote I keep coming back to is "work smarter, not harder." The next month is going to be very telling about how this is going to go long term.

Sure.

We have also added a MASSIVE number of support staffers.

So it's time to let "division of labor" do what it's supposed to do.

You don't build a support staff of hundreds and then continue to expect Mario to do everything.

Perfect harmony and timing with the post I just made above.

Excellent analogy and couldn't agree more!

We are trying to close on 5 star players while stopping others from flipping ours. Mario has to be involved.

Uh, where did I say otherwise?

But he can also hire coaches. It's possible to walk and chew gum at the same time.

And Mario doesn't exactly have, you know, "15 extra practices and a bowl game" filling up his daily schedule like most of his competition does.

The competition doesn't need to turn over the roster the way we do. I prefer him fully focused on closing strong heading into early signing day. With the right Jimmies and Joe's, the X's and O's becomes the easy part.

This might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read. "The competition doesn't need to turn over the roster the way we do". What in the fvck does that even mean?

First, NO MATTER WHAT, more than 50% of our additions (and EVERYONE'S ADDITIONS) will come from traditional recruiting (HS/JuCo).

Second, EVERYONE is losing kids in the Portal, and EVERYONE needs to refill those slots. Even Alabama is losing kids in the Portal. So, nobody has any greater "need to turn over the roster".

Look, you were just yapping about "trying to close on 5 star players while stopping others from flipping ours". So we are talking about MAYBE five guys in the first category and 20 in the second category. As if NO OTHER TEAM IN THE COUNTRY faces the same issue. AND has to prep for a bowl game.

What a joke. Hey, how about we decline the next couple of bowl games in the 2023 and 2024 seasons too, so that Mario has enough time to recruit in those years as well? By that time, we should be good enough that Mario can afford to "take a break" in 2025 to schedule some extra practices and prepare for a bowl game.

Calm yo *** down and go do some day drinking, or get some *****, lol. Let the man focus on recruiting. Let me explain before your temper tantrum gets any worse. When I said competition isn't flipping the roster like we are, I mean many teams that we are recruiting against aren't suffering from the lack of talent we have. We were 5-7 and have a top 10 class. That's uncharted territory for us. Keeping that top 10 class in tact should be priority number 1. That's all I got to say, you win.

Don't flip out because you are inarticulate and can't explain simple concepts properly.

Nothing stopping Mario from ALSO hiring a few coaches. His calendar is wide open.
