Josh Gattis (before its deleted)

I think pretty much everyone hates the way it was handled. Gattis killed us in the portal for 2 cycles along with recruiting. I can’t stop wondering just how many 5 star WRs we could have signed if the right moves had been made.

That home run OC will have an uphill battle as soon as he steps on campus.
Even I, who’s been preaching since mid November that both Gattis and Ponce would not be returning, became agitated at the timeline the last 2-3 days. Not that it altered my earlier statements, but it was maddening to see the repeated failures at WR when there was a direct correlation as to why they weren’t coming.

In the end, he’ll get judged on who he hires, not when. So the noise now is only exacerbated if the next hire is once again atrocious.

Mario does seem like a meticulous, organized individual with a plan. It’s clear he’ll follow it no matter what noise is brought up outside his walls. And I have a good feeling we’ll see a revamped and much improved offensive coaching staff.

Gattis will be the new WR coach at Penn St.
No reason to doubt you at all, but why would this be seen as a “saving face” move? From OC to WR coach is a definite demotion, which is why I thought he’d be going NFL position coach route as a saving face move and something that would explain the protracted timeline. Again, no shade at all, just not making sense to me.

I'll question him week 1 if we don't see some drastic and obvious changes.
I mean he had a ton of equity and then threw it all away with how bad the season went and putting our worst and most boring team in 40 years out on the field.

He deserves to be questioned every week from now on until he proves otherwise. He had a chance to dispel all the negative narratives he came in with and instead he just cemented them further.

Bad for QBs
Bad for WRs
Boring offenses
Bad gameday management

Nah. You hire a guy to be your OC, you have to place your trust in him during the season. Mario couldn't do anything about all of the above. Just like he couldn't control the breakdowns in the defensive secondary against inferior opponents.

Mario is not Lincoln Riley, doesn't have coordinator background. He runs his team like a CEO, kind of like how Satan and Smart run their teams these days. For better or for worse, Mario controls personnel, culture, recruitment and to some degree development. He does not control the day to day other than as management, to do more would be destructive.

It's saving face because it's a job. Better than the alternative.

Which HC would you point to as an example of this? That it's known no assistants want to work for them because they might get fired for an awful performance? Or on the other side, what example do you know about where assistants are drawn to a HC because rumor is you won't get fired? Or did you just completely pull this out of your *** to justify the current disaster?
I think it’s more how the assistant is let go. A public firing, blaming the assistant, or quietly suggesting he find other employment? Assuming a plan is in place for a replacement.

@SWFLHurricane making statements.

Time to sell this...

Gattis to be WR coach/Co-OC/Passing Game Coordinator and JaJuan Seider becomes Running Game Coordinator. LET'S GO!!!

This was done a long time ago so I doubt Mario has been fingering his butt since late November while OC’s were being hired up. I don’t think he’s the sharpest HC in America but I can’t see that.

You would know better than me. But you don't need to be smart you just need eyes to know that our offense vs. UVA was FUBAR. ... I figured he was waiting for Gattis to find a landing spot and his first choice or two or three decided not to take the job.

My eagles will put a end to that this week.
Please keep saying it so we can speak it into existence. There's a saying (no stats to back it up and too lazy to actually look it up) that it's hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. And with the JH shoulder injury clearly lingering, I'm concerned.

I’ve been saying all year we topped out too early. But I like the Giants matchup more than Min.

I agree. You place your trust in your OC and let them hire his guys and run his offense.

But Mario has been accused of meddling with the offense in the past.
