I think so too. But trust is certainly a factor and Mario and Ponce go way back. Bring Coley back and it's like the 3 amigos.

Mario certainly has been given the financial resources to bring whoever he wants but familiarity may trump just going after the next big name out there.
if we killed manny for even thinking of bringing ponce in as his OC, then mario should be burned for it. ponce in no way shape or form should be the OC here.

Ponce was to be a good get at QB coach, but we would have murdered Mario last year when the rumors of Ponce being in town were for OC…

That has not changed.

Need better than Ponce and Gattis. Let’s hope we get it.

We’re about to be the first program in history to win the Joe Moore award and only average 20 a game 🤣

What sucks is that even if Mario fires gattis tomorrow it will still be a failure cause he ruined our recruiting of receivers both in high school and portal. Mario has fumbled this part of the off-season

So if he fired gattis but didn’t have a replacement you think that would’ve yielded better results?

I’m not defending Mario at all but if he didn’t/doesn’t have his replacement then firing and having a vacant OC/WR coach isn’t getting any better results.

I know we are focused on OC which is certainly more important but what about DC..would y’all be open to Lovie Smith?
TV gif. Jemele Hill from Cari and Jemele Won't Stick to Sports forced a wide mouthed grin as she awkwardly blinks her eyes as if confused.

That’s not true, considering all the analysts and other off field guys that could temporarily be designated as an onfield coach and be out recruiting

Cooney
D Smith

Etc

But what does Mario sell? An imaginary offense of the future? It’s the same if he is firing gattis. He is selling something new whether gattis is here or not. Until Miami actually replaces him nothing is going to happen in recruiting at WR

You mean the guy whose defense finished near the bottom of the league in yards allowed, points allowed, sacks....you know all of the defensive categories?

Jeff Goldblum What GIF by Jurassic World
Ehh college and NFL and being a head coach vs defensive coordinator is different I’m not going to judge him totally from being on the Texans

I had this conversation last year because a certain user felt we should hire Pep Hamilton.

Well... lol

It sells more than "trust me bro, he's gone" does. I'd think about it this way: you're thinking about taking a job but happen to know one of the managers is a crap person and sucks at his/her job. The hiring managers tell you, "ohhh don't worry, we're planning on getting rid of him soon, but haven't yet because of x, y, and z". Is that more reassuring than them having gotten rid of him already and looking for a better replacement? Obviously you know there's a nonzero chance the replacement could be worse, but there's zero chance it's that ******* guy/gal. At least, this is how I view it, but we're all different so, idk.

Okay great. At Illinois, his defenses were terrible too. They gave up close to 40 points per game 4/5 years, and finished near the bottom of the nation in defense in 2016 (94th), 2017 (91st), 2018 (93rd), 2019 (54th), and 2020 (97th) and he was fired through 7 games with a 2-5 record.
