Just being a smart ***.. I don't know what to expect. I don't really do or care about %. all about game flow. Heupel, both Riley's, etc are all run heavy according to their %.

As long as we don't have that tendency to try to run it on 3rd and 6+ as much as we did last year...
If we are running on 3rd and 6 with a healthy TVD this season…. Then we might as well pack it up for the Mario era lol

burned way too much time in the ATM game leaving us with nothing at the end esp when we couldnt score TDs.
Yep we absolutely dominated time of possession milking clock away when we should have been in a hurry. Dominated time of possession, passing, rushing, penalty yards, punts, plays, 3rd downs. Every element of the game.

Everything that happened in that game and we still had a chance. We muffed a punt and it went right into their hands. They muffed a punt and it popped right back in the guys chest with 4 of our guys right on top of him inside their own 10. George shakes a dude out of his shoes and then trips over him when he houses that 90% of the time.

Nothing went right for us that day.

on top of that, ATM had key guys out for that game and then lost two guys in their secondary with targeting calls if im not mistaken. should have won

I think it's key to be balanced. you need to run the ball esp when putting the game away but you also need an efficient and prolific passing O to win in todays game (Day, Heuphal, Rileys all have that and they all run the ball a lot).

They sat a couple freshman for smoking the week before.

They did lose guys to targeting. That secondary was blanketing us too. Still did after they lost guys but as the season rolled on it was obvious it was partially schematic as to why there was no separation. Hope we fare a little bit better against their secondary this year. Not likely.. they're absolutely loaded with 5-6-7 NFL draft picks in their secondary that will all play in this game.

The difference is all of them have elite WRs. We really don't.

Those elite WRs allow them to run the ball.. as backwards as that sounds. If we had a Quentin Johnston or a Jalin Hyatt last year we would have went from 3.3 YPC to 4.3 YPC just by them standing on the field.

We're going to average 4.9 yards a carry this year. OL and RB room is upgraded a ton.

That's top 30 range in the country. I would agree with that.

Additions and improvement across the board at OL (new starter at all 5 positions), healthy QB, revamped WR room, and better scheme. Also, more talent at RB.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if we eclipse 5 YPC this year.

For as much as everything went wrong vs A&M last season, it’s wild when you realize if Tyrique doesn’t fumble that punt in + field position… Miami still wins that game… that’s how much we dominated the LOS.

That loss was demoralizing and snowballed after that.

I’m curious if Mario’s coaching and clock management changes with the addition of a running clock in college now. Teams with clearly inferior talent like the GT’s/UVA’s/BC’s (and even teams like Miami OH for example) are going to try and hold onto the ball for longer stints and shorten the game, as long as they’re not trailing by 2+ scores. Does Mario go balls to the wall and force them outside their normal parameters, or does he pull an A&M and opt for a strong running game, but 8 min drives?

Same goes for the A&M/Clemson/FSU games. Does he come out with no fear, or opt for clock control to keep their offenses off the field? Playing to keep it close instead of going for their throats.

Obviously the OC change should lead to a more explosive offense on paper, it’s just whether or not Mario can stay out of meddling when the adrenaline of the game kicks in.

JFC that was depressing to read lol.

It also surprised me that they only had 125 yards rushing on us and could barely complete a pass.

The Mario I've seen up to this point I believe opts to pull an A&M and use the strong running game. However, him hiring Dawson at all was outside of his norm. So hopefully he will evolve with the game. I mean Saban eventually did.

This is worth watching and proves your point. TXAM was excellent in coverage the whole game. Every throw vs TXAM here

George, X, B Smith, Redding are back
Add Young, Harrell, freshmen

The biggest difference will be the OL and running game. When you can get yards on the ground, they won't be able to drop 8.
