And he is not in the portal yet
Guys trying to will him into the portal after Mario has sht the bed not getting someone earlier.Mario keeps reading the clippings about how great a recruiter he is and continues to get himself into corners figuring whoever he goes after will just sign with him.

He got lucky last year that Cam finally said yes but he figured Mateer was all his not seeing the warnings were there regarding OU having his coaches going there and his parents wanting w]him close to home

So here we are again at the 11th hour trying to beg a QB to sign with us cause Mario hasn’t been able to recruit and develop his own.

He was "a decent FG kicker" away from going 9-3 or 10-2 this year in OUR conference. With CAL talent.

But you want people to break down two seasons starting against P5/P4 teams to prove to you that the kid can do the job?

He's not Cam Ward. Nobody is Cam Ward. But Mendoza can handle himself and win a LOT more games with more talent around him than what he had at Cal.

I want people to break down why Mendoza had/have so much FOMO and staff ridicule about him signing elsewhere vs any other QB in the portal who can "handle himself and win a LOT more games...."

I see nothing about his game to warrant the rancor.

Those stats look awful

Unless this dude is cheap I don’t get it? Some serious sunshine pumping at not just taking Mendoza as your bridge QB

Why wouldnt the kid just tweet out that he’s entering the portal?
Color me skeptical at this hour of him coming in time for spring.

I don’t like a QB who can’t perform in a QB friendly offense… not that Dawson runs some pro style offense himself but something that should be ringing alarm bells

And to that I say EVERYTHING in life should be looked at through a window of perspective and relativity.

There are no great QB options in the portal this year. Last year you had Cam Ward, Dillon Gabriel, and Will Howard all change teams. There's nothing this year of that ilk on the surface. It's like going to an open house in a really nice neighborhood but when you go inside the first thing your wife notices is the outdated kitchen and tile.

He'd receive a SIGNIFICANT upgrade in his O-line and running game. You can also bet Dawson wouldn't be anywhere near as pass happy in his playcalling as he was this year. Those two things along would keep him out of harms way and allow him to be efficient.

I see a kid with a good arm and can definitely scoot a little. Is he a risk? Yeah...but trust me so is Mendoza, despite what some of the people on this board think. This kid has A LOT more upside than Mendoza will ever have. He's also got multiple years of eligibility which can be good in either scenario

- Scenario 1 he's good ......you have a multi year starter
- Scenario 2 he disappoints......you still bought time for Nickel to learn for year and you simply let Maiava walk back into the portal.

You're talking to the guy who was YELLING that we should severely overpay for Mateer. I said that because I knew if we whiffed on him we'd be faced with these types of Mendoze/Maiava conundrums.

But yeah......gun to my head it's not close. I'd take Maiava over Mendoza any day just on tools and upside. If Dawson is the OC many on here think....he shouldn't have a problem molding the offense to his strengths.

But what if he didnt even submit his portal papers?
We make this portal game so much tougher than it really is. But I suppose THAT is on brand for us.

No ****...i'm talking momentum/name recognition to Cam and others that were in the portal or have been discussed as possibly being in the portal. It feels different to land this kid after missing out on others or having hope a big name popped. Plus, i was talking Cam's tape at Wazzu, not Miami. He had questions about turnovers and such driving his grade down for the draft but you saw bigtime throws as well. Nobody was going to come in and match Cam's play this year.

Someone mentioned the ND game, so i'm going to look for that one. I wasn't impressed with the A&M and UCLA clips i saw.
We can talk all day long about the hypothetical players that can enter the portal, but there is very little the staff can do until they enter. It’s all fantasy and wishful thinking until they actually enter. The only clips you saw from the A&M where the twitter trolls put on this thread of his picks from those games. How about you watch some film before you comment lol

And that’s why I’m not asking for another Cam because there isn’t one

I don’t care about tools I want a bridge dude whose gonna show nickel good habits and grow behind him… Mendoza in my eyes is a 20-25 TD with about the same ints

This kid reminds me of TVD who was absolutely reckless with the ball

Gotta think we are going to have competition from UGA on any QB portal transfer opportunities that come out.

I don't see TVD at all. He's a much different type of QB. He can move.

Another rumored portal QB that the board thinks sucks, but will turn into an all-time great the minute Miami doesn’t get him.

The upside is real with him, he's got high end tools but is very raw. At this point if he says yes then you
