Jayden Maiava to UGA now to USC

I couldn't disagree more. We simply don't have a talented enough team to settle for a game manager. That's a recipe for the same end result as what you're assuming will happen with a turnover prone QB. It's a pervasive problem on both sides of the ball. The defense will more than likely be improved but it won't be dominant...which is another thing you need for a game manager type to work.

We need at least some type of upside back there and you have to hope Dawson can coach up and scheme around it.

You want to argue that the fact my first statement is true in YEAR FOUR of the Mario experiment is Mario's fault? Sure...that's fair. However at this point I'll stick to my guns, I'd rather take a chance on a kid like this than bring in a Mendoza type.
We have differing opinions… Oline and the running game is gonna be the strength. Sadly it will bring back all the “bro ball” talk but it’s mostly to not giveaway possessions and not let the defense out to hang because cam isn’t here to pull a Cal game

I figured that was the implication but we've seen plenty of kids who take less for a situation they like better. Not EVERY kid makes it about the cash.

Big presumption to think he could be bought when his coaches were known to be going to Oklahoma
My implication was $$$ is what got us in, and kept us in, the running. No doubt when his OC and QB coach went to OU, it was almost a foregone conclusion Mateer would head there as well. Besides the fact OU is a lot closer to his home town.

to summarize, are we just all in here in a prayer circle that it's magically announced that he entered by last night's deadline? nakos would have certainly already tweeted it

or is there something that makes this even worth talking about?

Gio Lopez or Not the Rock who you like more here? I assume you like Chandler Morris here better than either one of them?
(Assuming this isn’t sarcasm from me posting about QBs too much lol)

Morris lowest upside of the 3 but clearest plug and play fit. Maiava’s physical tools are stronger than Lopez and obviously there’s proof of concept (good or bad) against and with P4 players. But I really like Lopez and personally would go with him over Maiava based on very limited sample. If Maiava enters I’m going to find a full game of him going against a front that USC could actually block for more than a second.

Morris>Lopez>Maiava if they were on the table for next year.

Nah I was serious. Thanks. I remember liking some of what I saw from Maiava at UNLV last year and thought we shoulda taken him instead of Poff as second QB. Don't think I saw him at USC except for the bowl game.

He made some throws that were really impressive in that bowl game. He also looked extremely sped up at times (like, a lot of the time), but I just want to see if that’s a function of SC’s line being completely outclassed in that game or just who he is. The turnover numbers are obviously concerning, but they also may be inflated from him not playing the cupcake portion of the schedule this season.

But I think Lopez should be a P4 starter without a question. Idk if South was able to pool some cash together to keep him for another year or what, but him not going to the portal was an odd choice, especially since they lost Bothwell. If he’s healthy next year I could see him being a fairly hot name in next year’s portal.

Guess we can ask ourselves the same question. Maybe??

Who else does USC have? Miller Moss left, Malachi Nelson was a bust and left, and they lost a QB recruit late to Colorado. I think Riley flipped someone late though. One would think an alleged QB-whisperer with 3 first overall picks wouldn’t have an issue at the position. Defense? Yes. QB? No. I guess the rumors of the bad NIL game may be true.

Bummer for USC. Don’t care.

A lot of people seem really high on Longstreet, the incoming freshman. They dropped Juju Lewis for him.

I've seen many quarterbacks coached by Lincoln Riley of recent vintage. Dominique Davis, Shane Carden, Kurt Benkert, Baker, Tanner Mordecai, Chandler Morris, Hurts, Spencer Rattler, Caleb Williams, Miller Moss.

Id like to think I know what one of his good ones looks like.

I don't doubt Maiava is talented. He was cool @ UNLV. But his profile sticks out like a sore thumb. Miller Moss in the same offense...same ypa (so nothing different) threw 5 percentage points higher and turned the ball over at a lower rate (both guys INT prone).

Shannon Dawson is really feeling himself with this one.

(and yes, I've seen him play)

The play I remember from the bowl game was when he forced it deep into double coverage to a WR while in the pocket and the analyst (Palmer I think) pointed out he just needed to wait a tick and the TE was wide open running in the area the WR drew a defender out of.

That GIF of the two ND pick 6s against him wasn't great, both were bad throws. He definitely has talent and can make off schedule plays, he just doesn't strike me a plug and play guy. He'll need time and more P5 game experience to clean stuff up. I think what he looked like at USC is probably what Mensah would have looked like here and will at Duke at least initially.

If we take him, we should take McIvor too as an insurance plan. I'm not convinced McIvor wouldnt be a walking INT in the ACC but he would be able to run Dawson's offense and go through the progressions no problem.

I still think it could be a Rashada or Sayin type high profile backup who could instantly take over. Both still eligible to jump in the portal.

Both also linked to us in the past, there’s relationships.

No emotion
I always thought Emory was bad
I’ve always been consistent
Was always a jag

The lack of confidence in Emory is understood; this isn't about that.

There's a disproportionate sense of loss about Mendoza that, IMO, isn't warranted based on his talent-level. That's the chain you joined and you can respond to that if you want.
