Ivan McCartney Update

For me It's Coley or bust...Coley is worth the risk, if the staff doesnt get him in, ride out with our current crop plus AJL.

Hol'Up Sticks was ranked higher than Coley, but you want to take a risk on a malcontent?

Ranked higher by who? and when? I would say at this point, Coley's ceiling is significantly higher.

Not if those attitude problems don't get fixed. I see no reason Ivan couldnt be productive here. I would take a kid who has caught 50 balls in a college season over a headcase highschooler anyday

Lol funny how he was THE guy we wanted 3 years ago but now you all want to avoid him like the plague. Dude was a beast at Miramar and will easily crack this depth chart. **** I wouldn't sleep on him starting if Rashawn keeps ******* up.

this happens all the time. 5 years ago everyone wanted jacory and forsten...sometimes people dont live up to the hype.

Sticks was ranked higher than Coley by every major recruiting service coming out of Miramar. a 2 time All-State selection (3rd team as a junior, and 1st team as a senior), 3 time All-Broward Selection (starting with his 9 touchdowns on 11 catches his sophomore year), and was a U.S. Army All-American.

I understand you may not want him NOW, but let's not go all revisionist history on him.

Jacory would've been very good had it not been for Corch/Whipple. Let's be completely real about that. **** our whole roster could've been good had it not been for Corch.

Sticks actually had a really good sophomore year at WVU, a program in much better shape than ours.

So you would rather take a Jr who didn't work hard, went to 4th on the depth chart, and then quit his football team?

He would not be getting "an extra year". The difference is without a waiver, he would have to sit 2013 (redshirt) and then play in 2014 as a Senior versus getting the waiver and playing 2013 as a Senior. He has played in too many games and too late in the season to have any season from 2010-2012 count as a redshirt. He has played 3 seasons by NCAA rules.

No waiver means that scholarship in 2013 is being tied up on a kid who can't produce, except on scout team, until 2014.

Depends on the circumstances of him quitting. If it was because he didnt want to put in the work to get a starting job then no. But if it is because he lives in buttfvck Virginia I have no problem wanting to come home. The guy didnt just lose his talent once he got the WVU. We have a top 5 WR coach in college and sticks seems like the perfect project. I dont see the risk

Scolly lol, i thought the kid wants to walk on, ***** a scolly for a kid that went to WV and couldn't make the cut there, DON'T WANT. FIU Bound, No way Miami should give him a ship, should have stayed at WV and competed.

For the last time, its not worth the risk to give this guy a scholarship. He has already proven that he couldn't contribute in college, so why should we give him the benefit of the doubt? Its much less of a risk to get these high school studs who haven't flopped yet in college. I also don't buy that the kid was homesick and unhappy either since of all his Miramar boys like Geno and Bailey went up there with him.

For all the Sticks fans,

Why couldn't he see the field this year? We all know Bailey and Austin are great but that offense has plenty of balls to go around. DJ Woods, their 3rd WR this year, caught 5 balls in 2011 and passed him. And why wouldn't he stay knowing Austin and Woods are Sr? Bailey may leave too.

Sticks saw the field some, but he was a bit lackadasical at time, and got passed on the depth chart. He is better than D.J. Woods and the other receivers, but his performance in the spring and first week of fall camp put him behind, and the coaching staff wouldn't give him a chance to move back up the depth chart.

As for his low number of receptions, this has gone on his entire career. When he played in HS with Geno Smith, it was readily apparent that Geno would rather force balls to his best friend Stedman Bailey rather than read the field and hit other options, even a sometimes open-by-20-yards McCartney. For whatever reason, Geno just doesn't like throwing the ball to Ivan, and Sticks' numbers suffered greatly because of that.

So he didn't work hard and then went in the dog house. He's better then other WRs but college coaches who are paid to win games sat him any way. He followed a QB to college who ignores him when he's open.

Can't tell you how ridiculous that sounds Cameron, you sound like Luther Robinson's dad.

Here's how I see it -- That was Randy Shannon's last recruiting effort, because he essentially made no effort at all during 2011, which was a total cluster until Golden saved it in January/February. Outside of Stoutland's OL takes, the whole 2010 class was a farce. We lost all the playmakers out of So FL, including Sticks. Recruits didn't want to play for Shannon's staff. They didn't feel wanted. So the fact McCartney went to WVU should mostly be put squarely on Randy Shannon.

This kid is a top talent. Just look at his HS and SO in college highlights. Don't let his lack of performance this year fool you. He's essentially a Juco 4/5-star WR. Maybe not Arthur Brown good, but really, really good. How many times have we seen kids (like A Brown) go into a dog-house and never climb their way out, no matter how talented?

I'm not saying take him, but let's trust the coaches on this one. His talent shouldn't be questioned, it's a matter of fit. If Golden and Fish have confidence he will respond to U Tough, buy into their process, and the adapt to the team culture, then "welcome home"!

Definitely wanted him when we were recruiting him. It's too bad he didn't end up here but our scholarships are getting scarce. I thought if Scott was in danger of leaving the team, it would make sense, but not now. No disrespect to Sticks, he's good, but I think we have much more pressing needs.

My initial reaction is NFW. With the receivers we have on the team, and the potential of the 2014 WR class, I see way more downside than upside. We need the schollies for DL and Ol anyway.

I remember him being highly rated....but you are 100% wrong.

ESPN recruiting-Coley #3 WR in the nation. McCartney #18 WR in the nation.
Rivals----------Coley #9 WR in the nation. McCartney #5 WR in the nation.
Scout----------Coley #8 WR in the nation. McCartney #12 WR in the nation.
24/7 sports-----Coley #5 WR in the nation. McCartney #15 WR in the nation.

Unless ESPN/Scout/24-7 are not part of "every major recruiting service"

Well then. I stand corrected.
My mistake.

Disagree if you want, but DO NOT compare me to Luther Robinson's dad. I never demeaned another player, nor called out the coaches. I simply offered the facts of conversations with multiple sources, and then gave my opinion based on covering Ivan since his sophomore year.

Mr Robinson did all of that and more. We are NOT the same, and you will NOT mention me in the same breath as him.

Incorrect. The waiver he's applying for would grant him 2 YEARS OF PLAYING ELIGIBILITY. I went back and checked with my sources and they assured me this is the case.

Cameron, wasn't trying to demean you, if I did it wasn't my intention and apologize.

Was using LRob's dad in that you were offering a lot of excuses why Ivan hasn't lived up to his billing, why he was the 4th WR as a Jr at WVU, why he wasn't catching balls and why he quit the team.

How? In 2010 he played in 4 games with all 4 being past the window to redshirt. In 2011, he played in all 13 games (including Orange Bowl). In 2012, he has played in 7 games.

I'm not trying to troll or flame or nothing, but looking at his game action is a clear indicator that he has 3 years of play involved per redshirt rules. I'm trying to see any way he can get 2 more even with a hardship waiver.
